Revox is a Swiss audio brand established in 1948 and registered as a trademark by Willi Studer in 1951. While the Studer name covered professional studio equipment, Revox was positioned as the sister brand for discerning home listeners, a split that shaped the company's identity for decades. The first Revox-branded tape recorder, the T26, appeared in 1952, and the brand went on to produce a long line of reel-to-reel machines — most notably the A77, of which more than 460,000 units were built, along with its matching A78 integrated amplifier and A76 FM tuner.
The catalog expanded beyond tape to include loudspeakers (beginning with the series 46 in 1970), turntables such as the belt-driven Studiomaster T700 with its carbon-fiber tonearm, CD players, network receivers, and multi-room control systems like the Joy series. In 2024 the company revived its most famous product line with the B77 MK3, a modern take on the B77 open-reel recorder.
Though Swiss in origin and branding, Revox products are manufactured in Germany. The company occupies a niche that straddles high-end hi-fi and studio heritage, and its vintage A77, B77, and PR99 tape machines remain sought after by musicians, producers, and mastering engineers for analog recording and tape-saturation work.
