TEAC — an acronym for Tokyo Electro-Acoustic Company — is a Japanese audio electronics manufacturer founded in 1953 by brothers Katsuma and Tomoma Tani. Headquartered in Tama-shi, Tokyo, the company built its reputation on reel-to-reel tape recorders, producing its first original model, the TD-102, in 1957. TEAC played a pivotal role in the home recording revolution: in 1972, the company introduced the first consumer-grade four-track reel-to-reel recorders with Simul-Sync, enabling overdubbing and giving musicians the ability to build home studios for the first time.

TEAC's product range spans turntables, integrated and power amplifiers, DACs, CD transports, network players, headphone amplifiers, and cassette decks. The company's VRDS (Vibration-Free Rigid Disc-Clamping System) CD transport mechanism, introduced in 1987, is widely regarded as a benchmark for disc playback and remains a centerpiece of TEAC's Reference 700 series. The current lineup is organized into the Reference 300, 500, and 700 tiers, with models like the VRDS-701 CD transport, the AP-505 and AP-701 power amplifiers, and the UD-701N network DAC. TEAC Corporation also operates two other audio brands as separate divisions: TASCAM for professional recording equipment and Esoteric for ultra-high-end hi-fi.
