Stanton Magnetics traces its roots to 1946, when Norman C. Pickering founded Pickering Associates, Inc. to serve the professional broadcast and recording industries. Walter O. Stanton joined in 1948 and became president in 1950, eventually establishing the Stanton Magnetics brand in 1961 to focus on professional audio products. The company pioneered several firsts in phono technology, including the first user-replaceable stylus in 1954 and the first stereo cartridge in 1958. The Stanton 500AL cartridge, originally designed for radio disc jockeys in 1970, became a staple among hip-hop DJs and turntablists in the late 1980s and 1990s due to its durability and reliable tracking.

Stanton expanded into DJ turntables, mixers, and media players in the late 1990s, and played a key role in pioneering Digital Vinyl Systems (DVS) with the release of FinalScratch at the 2002 NAMM Show. The company's turntable lineup includes the ST-150 and STR8.150 direct-drive models, known for high torque and build quality, as well as the portable STX scratch turntable aimed at turntablists on the go. Their cartridge line includes the DS4, engineered for scratching, mixing, and DVS use.

Based in Deerfield Beach, Florida, and operating as part of inMusic Brands, Stanton has a strong legacy in turntablism culture. A-Trak and DJ Craze both used Stanton cartridges in their DMC World DJ Championship victories.

Stanton has 48 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Turntables, DJ Mixers, and DJ Controllers. Their gear is featured by 21 artists, with the strongest followings in Electronic, Hip Hop, and Rock. Notable users include DJ Ravine, DJ Lord, and Adrian Belew.
