Lovely cleans on a remarkably inexpensive tube amp. Tube Screamer circuit is on the front end, the boost circuit follows it, then the effects loop, and then it goes to the preamp (see below). So you can insert the TS **and** the boost anywhere you want in the signal chain, including using them to boost overdrive pedals. A footswitch that goes with it turns on/off the TS and boost separately. I think the TS marketing kept some people away, unfortunately. Even if you don't like tube screamers it's still worth it. Don't expect high gain from this amp on its own. Only 4 tubes so it should be easier to maintain. Lots of speaker out options! https://www.hoshinogakki.co.jp/pdf/ibanez/manual/en/amp/TSA15H.pdf
Independent Reverb and Tremolo buttons for added flexibility. Signal is Reverb into Trem for the classic tone. It has *that* sound. Tons of wet on the Reverb available though so you can get ambient/gaze if you need it. Set low for classic, crank it for Niagara. No volume drop on Trem. It's one of those pedals that when it's on, I just sound better.
Responds very well to picking dynamics just like an overdriven amp. Gain on the pedal itself is limited with single coils but it gets much hotter with boost. Again, just like a real amp. EQ seems to be lower mids. By itself, it growls more than it crunches. Complaints about its limited range seem incorrect. Pickups, boosts, and its own 3 band EQ controls give a lot of options. See video demonstration from Catalinbread.
