Quality!

Very sturdy and well made. The metal feels like it is indestructible. The travel is smooth and everything works just great. I wish my HX stomp worked better with it by default or the pedal came with better setup instructions as I had to guess my way to getting the toe switch to work as Switch 8. But overall a great buy!

Perfect

These are the perfect pedal boards cable. They work great and have such a small profile I never worry about them getting in the way of my setup.

chrisdesign

The perfect cable?

Is this the perfect short cable? I think so. The quality is incredible and it feels interestingly robust and may last the rest of my life. Wonderful!

Incredible!

It’s quiet, it’s loud, it sound phenomenal. The people at EMG may have made the perfect rock P bass pickup!

It does a job

I love the construction. It’s beautifully made and feels great.

I don’t the volume control as plugged into my HX stomp on a second path to my acoustic I have the volume at ten, into a mic preamp at 10, boosting the volume with a compressor, then boosting the volume again at the mix. This thing is quiet!

With a good signal chain I can make it work, and I know this will never fail me. Got that, I appreciate it.

It works

It does a very simple job, but it works and is affordable. What’s more to love‽

Great for solo acoustic shows

This pedal really adds a different texture to the live guitar sound that removes the need for MIDI triggers. There’s no control over the tone and timing the for switch takes a little practice, but that’s manageable. Give us a deluxe version and I’ll be buying it straight away! However, this US such an incredible utility pedal that everyone should have one!

A real workhorse!

The option to choose the type of compression you apply is fantastic! The tone is wonderful and the build quality is exceptional. Truly a fantastic compressor!

I wish it had USB C as the current version needs a really good quality cable to work.

I wish it had a bottom switch like the B1K instead of needing software to change mode as guitar only sounds good with guitar and bass only sound good with bass. Meeting a computer to flip between them is a pain.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

FET mode. Using the software I’ve telling the attack and release to match that of Cali 76 bass compressor. I set the knob to fill clockwise, so 5.1ms attack, 73 ma release. Disk back the effect with the blend knob, around 3 o’clock for me. Ratio at 4:1 (first light), input to 2 or 3 lights, output to unit gain when I’m hammering on the loudest parts of a song.

Fantastic!

I love the black colour and the fact that the polymer is applied to the individual winding and not some tube coating over the whole string. Fantastic tone

Overpriced evil

Do the pedals sound good? Yes. Does it have unique pedals inside that other platforms don’t? Also yes. Is it worth buying? Hell no!

Just 16 models is nothing compared to the competition, and having to pay for other models in the future is a rip off. Don’t encourage this business model by buying one.

Wonderful

Sleek and works great. My board has never been tidier. That makes me happy.

A powerhouse of grind!

This pedal does what you wish Darkglass did! It’s raw, powerful, and goes perfectly in the mix. Maybe it's as subtle as a brick, but then who recorded subtlety from a pedal called Black Haze!

Don’t think you need to run at 18v to really unleash this pedal’s full potential. I did that and couldn’t hear any difference between the 9v and 18v version, but maybe I’m a loud stage that would be different? Just don’t stress over that detail.

I really like how in a band mix it thickens the bass tone without being too muddy or too clanky. This is a really great thing, think somewhere between Darkglass and big muff.

The only downside is it’s noisy when gained up anywhere from 2/3 upwards. If I didn’t need a noise gate this would be 5/5.

You can pretty much nail this pedal with a helix by selecting the Clawthorn Drive, mixing overdrive and fuzz. In fact, I sold this pedal and now use the helix to minimise my board, but may repurchase one in the future.

Too much fun!

By modern standards this is terrible, but for the time it was more fun than anything else! It’s just incredible for nostalgia!

Perfect for the HX Stomp

This allows me to run two effects loops in my HX Stomp, which makes me very happy. Great quality, great product!

Deceptively wonderful

Hearing the pedal pressure a mix sounds pretty bad, but in a mix it really works! I highly recommend!

My backup rig

I have this in my gig bag in case my HX Stomp fails and I need to get through a gig. It is very close to a Sansamp and will save the day when needed, but I hope never to play it.

My new favourite strings

I really like these strings, a lot! They have a smooth finish, great tone, and seem to live for longer. I’m only one month into their life, but they so far retain that new feel for longer without being pick axe bright. For me, how I play, these are my strings!

Another bonus is they’re made in the UK, so I can restring without giving the USA a penny!

My bass string of choice

They sound great, last a long time, and feel great. What is there not to love?

chrisdesign

This is great!

A very transparent pedal as it makes the bass into more of a solid wall of sound but without changing the tonal shift much at all. That may not be for everyone, and at times I wish I had a different compressor. It’s not bad, far from it, but it’s a different style. Overall I really like it. I would love this pedal on my lows then have something more interesting like the custard factory on my highs, but that’s overkill for my bar gig lifestyle. I love led meter so whatever bass I plug in (from vintage to active) works with the rest of my rig. To this end, I have my tuner after my compressor so I can mute my signal, pedal on a note, and adjust the input for the upcoming song fast.

However, I shifted up to the Darkglass Hyper Luminal, which does a better job at making a thick/ wall of sound feel and adds an interesting saturation with the Bus compression. I also prefer compressors that have a character to them. The MXR is incredibly transparent, which is fantastic in its own way, but not for me

Preferred Settings + Usage:

  • Release: Full
  • Attack: 9’ o clock or 3’ o clock depending on what I’m playing
  • Input: make meter to -5 dB
  • Ouput: make unity to volume off

Excellent cables!

These are the best patch cables I’ve ever used. Great construction, great feel, low profile, affordable, and saves space. Maybe the gold coating does something, maybe there is a tone difference, I don’t know. I do know that these are the only cables I use!
