Description

Embrace a new age of hybrid compression with the Darkglass Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor Pedal. This pedal stands out in the industry for its unique ability to digitally model the side-chain circuits of some of the most legendary compressors in history. By doing so, it captures their essence and characteristic behavior, all while maintaining a completely analog signal path.

The Hyper Luminal Compressor comes with 3 selectable models: BUS, modeled after the Solid State Logic Bus Compressor, FET, inspired by the legendary 1176, and SYM, a digital replica of the now-discontinued Super Symmetry. But the innovation doesn't stop there. The Hyper Luminal Compressor ditches the outdated mechanical switches for touch-through-metal sensors. These sensors detect when and where the chassis is touched, changing parameters accordingly. This technology not only offers a novel, intimate user experience, it also operates with extreme consistency and is virtually unbreakable.

The pedal also features a stunning 10-LED gain reduction meter and four knobs to adjust the blend of clean and effected signals, the time constants (Attack and Release), the level of compression, and the overall output volume of the unit.

Key Features:

Darkglass Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Darkglass Electronics' Hyper Luminal Hybrid Compressor is a visually stunning and functionally impressive pedal, offering a variety of compression styles that can enhance your bass tone. With features like touch-sensitive controls and a USB interface for deep customization, it caters to both casual players and serious musicians. However, it may not withstand rough handling, as its build feels less robust compared to previous Darkglass models. While it excels in performance, potential buyers should consider more affordable competitors that offer similar functionality.

A real workhorse!

The option to choose the type of compression you apply is fantastic! The tone is wonderful and the build quality is exceptional. Truly a fantastic compressor!

I wish it had USB C as the current version needs a really good quality cable to work.

I wish it had a bottom switch like the B1K instead of needing software to change mode as guitar only sounds good with guitar and bass only sound good with bass. Meeting a computer to flip between them is a pain.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

FET mode. Using the software I’ve telling the attack and release to match that of Cali 76 bass compressor. I set the knob to fill clockwise, so 5.1ms attack, 73 ma release. Disk back the effect with the blend knob, around 3 o’clock for me. Ratio at 4:1 (first light), input to 2 or 3 lights, output to unit gain when I’m hammering on the loudest parts of a song.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

I personally love the FET mode on about 3/4, has a nice vintage feel to it

Fantastic compressor

The build quality is top notch and the design is intuitive. I really like the 3 different types of compression I can get from just one pedal, and it's easy to get a good compressed signal. The Darkglass suite is great for fine tuning.

Preferred Settings + Usage:

I usually have the FET mode on with the ratio at 4:1, the blend and compression knobs around 1:00, and the time knob around 12:00 with all the settings in the suite at default.
