Anyone bought any new cds or downloaded anything or gowever you get your music?

Just picked up the Minor Victories album, its pretty good, but with a line up like that I wasn't expecting less; I think I have a new favourite supergroup.

Best thing I've seen all week - Red Hot Chili Peppers Carpool Karaoke

Ya know, there's nowt wrong wi' a little RHCP every now, and then. Yeh they're a bit generic, but there's definitely something to be said for them.

Did you hear the in ear mix of Frusciante? www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCKtaKmg6fs Interesting

Hey guts, this is the most long possible necropost on the forum, but Permier Guitar, just uploaded a Bloc Party rig rundown. Surely Russel could have a simpler setup, with a little MIDI...

Alternate Tunings

I just found a really nice one trying to play an AF song, don't know what the proper name is, but FADACF, I've been writing a few bits on it. Sus2's are also nice,

They're in the US atm, you could go, and find out? San Fran, LA, San Diego, Arizona, Albuquerque, El paso, Dallas, Austin. Don't know where you other guys are, apart from Jim though

What else has he done to it apart from changing bridge, and adding tuners. It's the same pups, and electronics isn't it?

Is that not a bass VI. You know a guitar tuned down an octave like the TTNG singer uses on the audiotree sessions:

Yeah Enter was pretty good, but I do really quite like station. My favourite to be honest was Geneva, but I already own that. After hearing "Vorel", I am so pumped for Guidance, I have a\ funny feeling its gonna be their best yet.

I can wholly understand why people might not like Sunn 0))), me myself I hated it for a long time, but slowly it started growing on me. They sound like they're amazing live, I'd love for them to play a bit in Europe,k though I think I'd need to buy some better ear protection.

I do love the simplicity of TTNG, they've really toned it down in recent years, but American Football are probably hands down the best, whimpery math rock, and even Mike's solo project is pretty good.

We have a few European festivals of Math/Post/Noise music. One in Leeds, which I conveniently missed, with the bottom acts of the bigger events; www.wharfchambers.org/event/strangeforms-festival-2016 One in Bristol, with an AMZING line up, that I can't go to, because I'm on holiday; www.arctangent.co.uk. One in France with another sick line up; www.dunkfestival.be.

Have you ever checked out "tiny moving parts", they really seem to fit with that TTNG, American Football, tappy math rock emo indie pop scene, which I've been checking out lately, since I discovered AF

Some old [Sunn O)))]

I love Sunn 0)))! They're so underrated, and understandably so, but all the same great. They're also supposed to be epic live. Glad to finally meet somebody else who's actually heard of them, here where I live everyone either likes pop shite, rubbishy emo (As in MCR/FOB/PA!TD stuff, as opposed to quality like American Football, TTNG), or indie, so much bloody indie rock.

I found a stray ITunes voucher, and picked up, Russian Circles - Station, and TWDY - Young Mountain

Doesn't one of you young guys have an EHX pitchfork?

I personally think TC are a little late to the game with this one, withy the exception of the toneprint feature its just not that interesting an octaver. I really wish they'd release a HOF X4, though. I really like my pitchfork; for the price its really amazing, I've never had a trackng issue, and I've been using it week in, week out, for months, the momentary, and latch features are cool, and attaching an exp pedal makes it essentially a wammy. The sound is sometimes a little different to other octavers, in a way that's hard to describe, but for the options its pretty nice, basically like a nano HOG2. Would've appreaciated some MIDI presets, but that's what you pay for the HOG for I suppose.

Hi!

Don't know about anybody else, but I'm jealous of those rickys. Wouldn't mind one of those myself. Are they fairly modern?

Prophets of Rage

Has it been called off, or something now? Well, Public Enemy are pretty much the only sort of band of that genre I can tolerate, and RATM are good (Personally I prefer Audioslave, but each to their own). It'll be interesting to see how it turns out.

During the video he says he uses the Digitech digidelay to get his stutter sound, what sort of settings would you have to use to get that sort of thing, would it just be tape, with a lot of feedback, and not much delay time?

Just remembered about this guy, Mylets; does some awesome live work, with loopers, and pedal dancing.

Can anybody work out what the guitar he has there is.

Alternate Tunings

I probably should more, it opens up a lot of doors. I've only really used open D, open G for slide, and banjo impersonations, DADGAD, and whole, or half tone lower when needed, and for a few bits, then all number of drop tunings. Oh, and a couple of weird C tunings, I think like open csus2, for scarlet, that was cool, but a little hard to get to terms with.

Any of you Europeans got Eurovision plans

Haha funny, I thought you'd see that. Yeah idk about hte ones he used live yesterday, but if you watch the performance from February he has a legit board, andI think its a dd7 hes manipulating.

10yabout 10 years ago

Any of you Europeans got Eurovision plans

Ohh the campest time of year. Its a crime not to watch, even though the quality of music is lower than the chances of a Bernie Sanders presidency.

basswood

Yeah I'm slightly skeptical, but it sounds cool. Cool, but with issues. Somewhat like Kurt Cobain...

10yabout 10 years ago

basswood

While we're on this subject, what is pine like as a tonewood? I'm considering this http://intl.fender.com/en-GB/series/special-edition/modern-player-telecaster-plus-maple-fingerboard-charcoal-transparent/

10yabout 10 years ago

basswood

Not totally, but you can use woods that lean a little more towards it, like woods with tighter lows, and potentially less brightness, and/or mids. It doesn't dictate it much, but its just another bit of the cocktail.

10yabout 10 years ago

basswood

Very fat, and lower mid heavy, but somehow not honky, and with good clarity, and smooth, not so much tight lows. A little dull, not much grain, but aesthetics aren't the whole thing. Overall quite rich, warm, and with a decent sustain I'd say, probably not that good for too heavy metal. Petrucci likes it, but he doesn't really chug, or riff too much.

Best post rock bands

Slint - Spiderland is a good album, but its a little overrated, I guess itdid start "post-rock", but I'd say there's better, tbh. Mogwai - Mr Beast, The Hawk Is Howling, Happy songs for happy people, and rave tapes are all better, as are most eits, and sigur ros albums. Also millions living will now die -

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBD1jGdGFX4 - is my favourite post rock album.

Check out this will destroy you, god is an astronaut, capsian, and red sparrows if you haven't heard them yet.

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

You could do that fairly easily with just some sort of pitch device - I'm thinking HOG for some reason, or the EHX superego - and a special verb.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQ-3o15rfvI - could do it

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a-azdgNxSOs - also

Add a big sky/space reverb, or something thatll have that kind of mode

10yabout 10 years ago

Best post rock bands

Yeah I quite like them, haven't listened to much, but what I'd heard was good. A lot of people class ASMZ as post rock, its hard to classify though I guess, but why categorise it anyway.

Violin/hollowbody basses

Well it depends what you're doing. Low maintenance stuff yeah they're fine, but anything complex then they're pretty bad, and physically hard to use: Ever tried to slap a hofner?

10yabout 10 years ago

Violin/hollowbody basses

The bass player in my band has one. They couldn't compete really, with an acoustic guitar, and drums unplugged.

Radiohead - Burn the witches opinions

Personally I like this song, and I've listened to it a couple of ties since yesterday, I'd disagree with people saying its dull, I'd say its very interesting musically, with a lot of clever composition (JG is one of the best musicians of our time), not there best though.
