The Charango: A Powerful Little 10-String Wonder from the Andes - Didge Project

didgeproject.com

The charango is a delightful 10-string instrument that brings the spirit of the Andes into any musician's hands. Its unique sound offers a rich palette of textures, making it accessible for beginners while still challenging enough for seasoned players seeking depth. However, while the craftsmanship is commendable, some may find the body size a bit unwieldy during prolonged play. For those eager to explore South American music, the charango is undoubtedly a worthy addition to your collection.

From http://www.hackettsongs.com/instrument.html: "My interest in instruments from around the world continues to grow. During 2014 and 2015 I've collected some more, including a Peruvian charango, oud from Iraq, cigar box guitar and electric dulcimer from the States. I'm also pleased with my new Anolog.Man pedals."

Francisco Durán used the charango from Pillanes for the recording of the album, as in the song "Loro," and he used it in practically all of the band's live concerts. He then debuted it for Los Bunkers' acoustic set during their 2023 tour of Mexico, when they premiered "Calles de Talcahuano" live, a song they would later add to their setlist for the rest of the tour until 2024 in Chile and other countries. He would later return to the setlist for Los Bunkers' MTV Unplugged and subsequent tour. [Photo of a Pillanes concert in Concepción in 2019]
