Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Mogami Gold Studio Cable XLR.

Comparisons

  • Quad cables offer better electromagnetic interference rejection but may have slightly more signal loss on long runs compared to standard cables.

    Source
  • Monoprice StarQuad XLRs are noted for being thinner yet highly flexible and durable over years, making them a surprising favorite for many users.

    Source
  • Canare L-4E6S is preferred over Mogami due to its braided shield, which is more durable for stage use than Mogami's served shield.

    Source

Value and pricing

  • Mogami Gold cables are often considered overkill for podcasting, with homemade alternatives suggested as cost-effective solutions.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • For podcasting and typical recording setups, the difference between Mogami Gold Studio and Quad cables is negligible.

    Source
  • For live sound, quad cables are deemed overkill for runs under 25 ft; quality connectors like Neutrik are more critical.

    Source
  • Short cables (3 ft) are ideal for rack setups and tighter stage configurations, particularly when using sub snakes.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • DIY enthusiasts can build similar quality cables using Neutrik connectors and bulk cable at a lower cost.

    Source

Build quality

  • Gold plated terminals may cause reliability issues if paired with non-gold connectors; silver plated contacts are recommended for consistent performance even if they oxidize.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Platinum line is noted for its low capacitance, making it potentially better for live setups with long cable runs, though less flexible due to stiffness.

    Source

User experience

  • Cables should be well-wrapped and maintained regularly; a cable tester is recommended for live environments to ensure reliability.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • Redco offers customized cable lengths and connector types, beneficial for specialized setups like drum looms or specific rack requirements.

Great, Not a Necessity

I was talked into buying one of these when I first started getting into recording. Stupid purchase. Although it is a very nice and durable cable, it doesn't affect the sound enough for me to be able to tell this from a $20 XLR cable.

1 alternative for Mogami Gold Studio Cable XLR, curated by the Equipboard community.

Monster Cable Studio Pro 1000 Microphone Cable

newer similar sound cheaper alternative

I am an Official Bruce Swedien Trainee

Studio Pro 1000 was used to Record Mix & Master ALL of Michael's Jackson's Greatest Albums & IMO the Best Cable around although hard to get the High Quality Stuff & Super Expensive

Mogami Gold Sounds extremely similar with all the same Sonic Quality

I have started several decades ago with the Best Canare Cable, Beldon & other Studio Standards

I still use Monster Studio Pro 1000 on all my most important lines but happy rely on Mogami Gold everywhere else

I like the accurate transfer of Heavy BASS & Punch including Low Mid - OVER the Best Canare Cable while the Mid to Top is still pretty equal therefore nowadays I only use Canare where a Super Clean Analytical Sound on something Scientifically Sterile is needed (which is pretty rarely needed)
