Renoise Redux review | MusicRadar

Renoise Redux brings the unique tracker workflow to your DAW, offering a rich array of features for creating intricate sample-based music. While its interface can be daunting for newcomers, it rewards those who embrace its complexity with unparalleled creative possibilities. The plugin shines with its intuitive GUI, support for Linux, and excellent value, though it demands a steep learning curve. If you're accustomed to trackers, Redux seamlessly integrates that functionality into a conventional DAW, but for others, the interface may not be immediately accessible. Overall, Redux is a superb tool for the right user.

The perfect sampler for me

Redux is a sampler with 12 outputs, a build-in sample editor and a versatile phrase-sequencer. It is a MIDI-controlled plugin but offers qualities of working with samples on an 'audio-level' in the DAW. Commands to alter a sample in the phrase (f.e. vol, pan, re-trigger, reverse, delay) or an effect parameter (per step) can be written into the phrase. So you could load a piano, record your play in the phrase grid and then process selected notes afterwards without altering the sample itself. Redux offers a great set of effects that can be modulated. Putting a gated reverb on the second snare f.e. is done in a few clicks. A cool feature is that I can use keyboard commands when the window of Redux is selected.

The need to use hexadecimal values is something that confuses me all the time but I guess I'll get used to it some day. Redux has the limit that you can play one instrument at a time. Think of it as a drum-rack or instrument-rack in Ableton but not as NI Kontakt that can handle multiple multi-sample instruments at once.

Weird.

You can make cool stuff, but it's kind of a weird plugin, advanced, but weird. I don't know how its weird.
