Critic Reviews

Samplr

soundonsound.com

Samplr for iPad is a standout app for sample manipulation, offering an intuitive use of the iPad's multi-touch surface to creatively twist and morph samples. Its seven distinct play modes, including Slicer and E-bow, provide a rich palette of sonic possibilities, especially for ambient and electronic music. The inclusion of effects like Distortion and Reverb further enhances its appeal. However, it lacks direct sampling capabilities and audio copy-paste functionality, common limitations on iOS. Despite these drawbacks, Samplr's natural and engaging interface makes it a highly recommended tool for any sample enthusiast.

Review: Samplr iPad Instrument — AudioTechnology

audiotechnology.com

Samplr for iPad transforms waveforms into a tactile playground, making sound manipulation an intuitive, expressive experience. Its multi-touch modes, like Looper and Tape, allow creative exploration with simple gestures, while native effects and MIDI sync expand its versatility. The app's thoughtful design and user-friendly interface, inspired by developer Marcos Alonso's innovative work, make it a standout tool for musicians. Though Scratch mode might need a rethink, Samplr's potential is only limited by imagination and skill. At $9.99, it's a must-have for iPad users seeking a dynamic performance instrument.

"Dino J.A. Deane hipped me to a really amazing app called Samplr. So I’ve been utilizing this quite a bit lately, capturing my audio and playing this unit and finding new sounds that can then be mutated, distorted, looped, harmonized, etc. with my pedals. There is also stuff you can do in Samplr itself: choose just a part of the wave, pitch it up or down up to three octaves, filter, scrub—all right on the touch screen of the iPad."
