Use cases and applications

  • Users recommend placing the Fat Fuzz Factory first in the pedal chain for optimal interaction, creating a pronounced fuzz effect when followed by other distortions.

    Source
  • Users find the Fat Fuzz Factory beneficial for achieving unique, roaring fuzz tones, although not ideal for controlled, velvety high-gain sounds like Smashing Pumpkins.

    Source
  • It's recommended to plug the Fat Fuzz Factory directly into the amp without other pedals, as it interacts intensely with the guitar's knobs and impedance.

    Source
  • The Fat Fuzz Factory is praised for its sustain and breakup, making it ideal for lead parts, though it may be too compressed for vintage rhythm tones.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Unlike Big Muff, the Fat Fuzz Factory is based on a Fuzz Face circuit, delivering fuzz face-style sounds plus sputter, gated, and radio frequency interference effects.

    Source
  • The Fat Fuzz Factory has been compared to a Russian Circles setup, with some users citing that they could replicate Big Muff Pi and RAT tones, leading them to sell other fuzz pedals.

    Source
  • The EQD Park Fuzz Sound is recommended for its ability to bridge the gap between Fuzz Face and Big Muff tones, offering a versatile tone knob for high-pass to bass-boosted sounds.

    Source
  • The Fat Fuzz Factory is noted for getting close to Big Muff territory, leading some users to replace their Big Muff pedals entirely.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners highlight the pedal's unpredictability in live settings, but it excels in experimental recording sessions, offering a wide array of unique soundscapes.

    Source
  • Owners report that the Fat Fuzz Factory remains loud even at its lowest settings, making it essential to adjust volume settings carefully for live performances.

    Source
  • Adjusting settings on the Fuzz Factory can be unpredictable in live settings, with some users preferring more stable alternatives like the Zvex Mastotron.

    Source
  • Many owners find dialing in the Fat Fuzz Factory easier than reported, generally avoiding oscillation, even with low Stab settings.

    Source

Features and functionality

  • The Fat Fuzz Factory is known for its sharp, biting fuzz, often described as having an upper octave and gated, self-oscillating feedback, distinct from Big Muff tones.

    Source
  • The Fat Fuzz Factory includes a toggle that adds low-end presence by increasing a coupling capacitor's value, allowing for -1 or -2 octave effects.

    Source
  • The Fat Fuzz Factory is noted for its highly interactive knobs, allowing for a wide range of tonal experimentation when balancing gate and stab settings.

    Source

Mods and upgrades

  • Some owners have built Fuzz Factory clones themselves, finding that stabilizing the "stab" knob eliminates unwanted oscillation, while the gate and comp settings can further refine the sound.

    Source
  • NFYFX offers a vertical Fat Fuzz Factory custom pedal, featuring additional toggles like hybrid silicon/germanium, with unique paint jobs.

Z.Vex Fat Fuzz Factory Pedal Review - Premier Guitar

premierguitar.com

The ZVEX Fat Fuzz Factory is a fuzz pedal that offers massive versatility with its additional low-end switch, making it a dream for experimentalists and bassists alike. Its ability to switch between standard Fuzz Factory tones and new, thicker sounds makes it a powerhouse for those seeking diverse fuzz flavors. However, the pedal's steep learning curve and finicky placement in a pedal chain might deter beginners. If you're willing to invest the time to explore its controls, the Fat Fuzz Factory can deliver an impressive range of unique, dynamic tones that are worth the effort.

weird but versatile

I use this primarily for velcro fuzz and what most would consider "awful" fuzz tones. The thing is, this can actually achieve anything from a fuzz face, treble booster, all the way to a big muff, and everything else in between. It's not just a gimmicky fuzz. It's quirky and weird, but also versatile and extremely tweakable.

Fuzz Factory with subs

This is a mental pedal. Oscillations, squealing and just madness with every turn of the knobs. The added subs also provide other tonal shifts and flexibility. If you're looking at the standard unit I would recommend grabbing this instead.

This is truly a factory of fuzz

First in the signal chain, or else it doesn’t work. Apart from that, it’s insanely awesome!

Beast!

The amount of fuzz/texture sounds make this a superb tool for studio use & live riffage.
