Critic Reviews

Spectrasonics Stylus RMX

soundonsound.com

Spectrasonics Stylus RMX is a powerhouse for groove creation, offering impressive tempo and pitch manipulation with a vast, flexible library. Its intuitive interface and Chaos Designer feature allow unique, improvisational beats, making it a standout tool for producers. However, its groove library leans towards 'urban' styles, which may not suit everyone, and the effects section isn't standalone. Despite these minor setbacks, its expandable nature and rich features make it a valuable upgrade for Stylus users, ensuring it will be a staple in many productions.

Fun and chaotic rhythm powerhouse

Ever boot something up and just have it be... fun? That's what Stylus is. It's pure joy encapsulated in a legitimately productive program - Stylus is as enjoyable to use as some of my favorite games. Runs like a dream off of my SSD, has hundreds if not thousands of awesome loops, and fantastic, rich drum kits that are GM mapped so you can easily pop em into a track. It's also 8-part multitimbral with 8 outputs, so you get lots of routing options in your DAW>

Reportedly excellent but I didn't bond with it.

I tried to figure out the Stylus RMX after buying it with all its expansions and did use it extensively for a while but ultimately when I upgraded a computer I didn't move this program to the new one despite my love of Omnisphere and Trillium. And maybe someday I will give it another go but I was kinda waiting for Spectrasonic to upgrade it but hasn't happened. Some people swear by this groove program but so far not me.
