Critic Reviews

Oeksound Soothe 2

soundonsound.com

Oeksound's Soothe 2 emerges as a powerful evolution of its predecessor, boasting enhanced versatility and an intuitive interface that makes it a joy to use. The new Soft mode often requires little-to-no adjustment, effortlessly tackling harshness in recordings. However, its external side-chaining feature falls short due to inconsistent delay compensation in some DAWs, limiting its effectiveness in complex setups. Despite this, Soothe 2's ability to refine various audio sources—from guitars to drums—demonstrates its indispensability in modern mixing. An essential upgrade for anyone serious about sound quality.

oeksound: Soothe2 Plug-In | Tape Op Magazine | Longform candid interviews with music producers and audio engineers covering mixing, mastering, recording and music production.

tapeop.com

oeksound's Soothe2 is a game changer for mixing, particularly in managing low-end resonance without sacrificing power. The plug-in shines in taming tonal issues across various instruments, making it a must-have for any producer. Its integrated tutorial is a thoughtful addition, easing users into its slightly complex interface. However, the learning curve might be a hurdle for some. While it excels at handling sibilance and proximity effect, those seeking a straightforward, plug-and-play solution may find it less accessible. Overall, Soothe2 is a powerful tool that enhances clarity in mixes, making it well worth the investment.

Oeksound Soothe 2 & Spiff Review | Headliner Magazine

headlinerhub.com

Oeksound's Soothe 2 plugin is a standout for its intuitive interface and impressive audio processing capabilities, making it a must-have for tackling troublesome recordings. Its ability to seamlessly reduce resonances while maintaining clarity is commendable, and the graphical feedback assists in fine-tuning adjustments effectively. However, some users may find the depth of control overwhelming at first, and the hard settings can sometimes over-process signals. Meanwhile, Spiff offers a unique approach to transient control but may not outperform established competitors. Overall, Soothe 2 shines as a powerful problem-solver in any engineer's toolkit, though it requires a bit of a learning curve to fully harness its potential.

positive

oeksound soothe2 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Soothe2 is a remarkable advancement over its predecessor, boasting improved usability and an expanded frequency range that now extends to 20Hz. With six versatile EQ bands, dynamic processing, and enhanced stereo manipulation, it provides a powerful tool for producers. The addition of a sidechain input is a notable highlight, allowing for more nuanced control over mix elements. However, the absence of per-band Attack and Release controls is a missed opportunity that could enhance its already impressive capabilities. Overall, soothe2 is a must-have dynamic EQ plugin that excels in transparency and adaptability, making it an invaluable asset for any producer.

Best « modern » plugin ever made ?

It’s rare, but it happens: sometimes a product becomes a legend and a full success right away. It’s even more impressive when it’s coming from a new brand as a first plugin.

Oeksound changed the game few years back with this incredible tool, designed to help you remove frequency problems out of individual and full tracks. Version 2 sounds even better and goes lower in the spectrum. The truth is that the industry was almost waiting for this thing but nobody was really pushing into it, apart from dynamic and clever static EQs (that are still as important, don’t get me wrong).

This thing really defines what digital can do (along with software like RX and Melodyne) and it’s really cool to see some people coming out with such dramatic and so great sounding ideas. It helps so much it’s almost scary. But yeah it’s musical, transparent, super fast, well...you name it, already a classic. Learn it and you will be rewarded ! Thanks Oeksound, keep up !

PS: their second plugin, Spiff, is also a true god-send for mixing and editing. You want to create analog-like sweet dynamics ? Crazy punch ? Try it !

Like Magic.

I would lie, if I'd say that this isn't one of my best plugin investments I've made till this day. It became an essential piece of software in my productions. Throwing it on literally anything like synths, drums or even a tiny bit on the master works wonders!
