Owner Insights

We analyzed real musician discussions from forums and Reddit to find what players love, question, and tweak about Spectrasonics Keyscape.

Features and functionality

  • Keyscape requires a powerful CPU and a quality low-latency ASIO driver for optimal performance with digital pianos like Roland's PHA-4.

    Source
  • The Yamaha PSR-353's keybed lacks dynamic control, making it less suitable for VSTs requiring nuanced dynamics but adequate for simpler synths and organs.

    Source

Use cases and applications

  • Ideal for neo-soul enthusiasts, especially for those seeking a diverse range of piano sounds, including the popular Rhodes tones.

    Source

User experience

  • Owners report that Keyscape sounds unrealistic to pianists due to its synth-like dynamic response, but it's highly playable for production use.

    Source

Software and compatibility

  • Keyscape integrates seamlessly with Omnisphere, providing added value for users who own both software packages.

    Source
  • A USB-MIDI connection on newer keyboards like the Yamaha PSR-353 allows direct use with VSTs, avoiding additional cables but requiring proper drivers for latency management.

    Source

Comparisons

  • Some users feel that Keyscape's piano sounds can be thin or muddy, requiring significant EQ adjustments compared to other VSTs like Garritan's CFX.

    Source
  • The Roland FP30X and Yamaha P45/125 are recommended entry-level digital pianos for their superior key action and sound quality compared to older keyboards like the Yamaha PSR-353.

    Source

Setup and maintenance

  • ASIO4ALL drivers can reduce latency for VSTs; however, if issues persist, an audio device with a dedicated ASIO driver is recommended for smoother performance.

Critic Reviews

Spectrasonics Keyscape

soundonsound.com

Spectrasonics Keyscape is a monumental achievement, offering a meticulously curated collection of 36 vintage and rare keyboards, which sound as close to perfection as one could hope for. The library's diversity, high-quality samples, and seamless integration with Omnisphere 2 make it an invaluable tool for musicians and producers. However, the overwhelming number of creative options might be intimidating for some. Despite this, its authenticity, playability, and the sheer joy of exploring its rich sonic landscape are undeniable. A must-have for keyboard enthusiasts and anyone seeking inspiration from classic sounds.

Spectrasonics Keyscape review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Spectrasonics Keyscape is a stunning collection of meticulously sampled keyboard instruments, offering a vast library of presets and high-quality effects. It excels in delivering authentic, expressive sounds from classic keyboards like the Rhodes and Wurlitzer. However, it lacks per-key velocity editing and customization options for Duo combinations and effects. Despite these limitations, Keyscape's ease of use and sonic detail make it a compelling choice for keyboardists seeking a rich palette of vintage tones.

Great piano sounds

Just recently bought this plugin after been watching Youtube videos about it for quite some time, and it's truly amazing. The piano sounds are incredible and with a lot of different presets it's easy to find a timber that fits the track I'm working on. It includes a lot of different piano instruments: Pianos, rhodes, clavinette, toy pianos, glockenspiel, vintage digital synths. It's my go to now whenever I need very authentic sounding keys, which is quite often.

speedydtm

Brilliant

Keyscape is the only keys sound collection I've used that feels truly 'intimate' - playing it feels like you're really in front of a nice grand piano, or Rhodes, or whatever. It's very inviting and exciting to play, and quite inspirational!

My piano in my parents’ room is not situated well for recording. It’s more fun to write on it, then record on a MIDI keyboard, especially because I like tweaking MIDI parts, changing and perfecting them.”
