We’ve been toying with the idea of Equipboard-branded merch for a while now. A small batch of designs is live - nothing loud, just some clean, design-forward t-shirts for the folks who’ve been with us for a while.

Before we take it any further, we figured this crew might have the best takes:

• Would you actually wear any of it?
• What’s missing that you would want to see?
• How’s the vibe overall - does it feel like us?

Totally appreciate any gut reactions - even just one-sentence hot takes. We’re still figuring out if this is something we double down on or just keep casual.

That is to prevent people from giving their own submissions a quality rating. The idea is that other people in the community rate the accuracy of the submission. Does that make sense or do you think the system should be changed?

I think the current requirement is 500 points to be able to add videos.

And yes, we are shifting away from that request. For a better music gear research/shopping/searching experience, we don't want to cut those "category words" from every single item on the site.

There are some items where of course it gets too verbose. If you came across Boss TR-2 Tremolo Guitar Effect Stompbox Tremolo Pedal that's a bit much.

We realize this request is a bit qualitative, but the gist of it is, leave the name alone if it happens to have a couple of "category words" e.g. Fender American Ultra II Telecaster Electric Guitar ... no need to remove "Electric Guitar."

It was time to make some updates to some community guidelines, specifically regarding:

• Submitting gear to artists
• Adding (and editing) music gear to Equipboard
  

Whether you're new to the community or a seasoned veteran, we think there are some important things in here.

🚨 I wanted to call something out - please refrain from removing descriptors from item/product pages! Lately we've noticed an influx of item edits, where a descriptor that is perfectly acceptable is being removed. Example:

• Boss BD-2 Overdrive Pedal ➡️ Boss BD-2

Please stop doing this! We will be rolling these changes back. If this doesn't stop, we may have to temporarily suspend the ability to edit items.

As the guidelines state, if you come across this on Equipboard:

• ❌ BOSS HM-2W Heavy Metal | Premium Waza Craft Guitar Effect Pedal with Analog Circuitry | True Reproduction of the Legendary BOSS HM-2 Heavy Metal | Standard & Custom Playing Modes | 5-Year Warranty

By all means, edit it to remove the marketing fluff. Otherwise, remember that at the end of the day Equipboard is partially a community and also partially a shopping site, and from a shopping/searching perspective, it's useful to have the title of the page be Boss BD-2 Overdrive Pedal and not just BD-2.

Alright everyone, here’s an update on our YouTube channel.

We just hit 1,000 subscribers! Huge shoutout to Kevin for his great work on our videos. He’s wrapped up the initial batch of pedal reviews we wanted to include in our guides and product pages, and it’s been great to see how they performed. One big takeaway: people really responded well to our more tutorial-style videos, like how to use loopers, so we’re thinking about focusing more on instructional content moving forward.

Some potential topics include:

• The best way to learn guitar
• Basic music theory lessons
• How to build your first pedalboard
• Recommended effect order in your signal chain

I’d love to hear your thoughts. Any suggestions or recommendations? Let me know what you think.

From what we’ve heard so far, it sounds like we need to bring back:

• Upvotes
• Sorting by newest
• Filtering out completely incorrect submissions

We’re uncertain whether the upvote system for artist submissions added meaningful value.

While the rating correctness feature remains (and should be easier to find in the new design), upvoting wasn’t seeing much use. This might stem from confusion about what an upvote represents - is it acknowledging the significance of the submitted product, or the quality of the submission itself?

I’d love to hear your thoughts on this.

We refresh Reverb data every 24 hours, and the pricing could be off if for instance the lowest priced listing sells (which it tends to do so quickly). VAT could also have much to do with the discrepancy.

Regarding Thomann, we only know what they tell us in their data feed. For the Boss CE-2W the most recent pricing data from them says $225 USD. If you convert that to Swedish Krona, then add 25% VAT, I think then you get to the price you're seeing on Thomann. So it looks like maybe VAT is what accounts for the difference.

Giulio and I released a few updates today that we hope will improve the product page experience. Here’s what’s new:

• “Save” Feature: You can now quickly save items to your Equipboard directly from the product page.
• Quick Edit Access: Logged-in users will see an edit button in the top section, so no more scrolling down to find it.
• Streamlined Navigation: We’ve implemented breadcrumb navigation and removed some old category links to better utilize space.
• Simplified Artist Usage Link: The dropdown for artist usage is gone, replaced with an anchor link that takes you directly to the section.

Additional updates to look out for:

• Replies to gear reviews are on the way.
• Dark/light mode selectors are now available in three locations: the gear dropdown menu, community dropdown menu, and footer.
• We’ll be updating other site menus with this new style across pages to improve consistency and functionality.
• A refreshed artist page experience is currently being designed and is coming soon!
