Giulio and I released a few updates today that we hope will improve the product page experience. Here’s what’s new:

• “Save” Feature: You can now quickly save items to your Equipboard directly from the product page.
• Quick Edit Access: Logged-in users will see an edit button in the top section, so no more scrolling down to find it.
• Streamlined Navigation: We’ve implemented breadcrumb navigation and removed some old category links to better utilize space.
• Simplified Artist Usage Link: The dropdown for artist usage is gone, replaced with an anchor link that takes you directly to the section.

Additional updates to look out for:

• Replies to gear reviews are on the way.
• Dark/light mode selectors are now available in three locations: the gear dropdown menu, community dropdown menu, and footer.
• We’ll be updating other site menus with this new style across pages to improve consistency and functionality.
• A refreshed artist page experience is currently being designed and is coming soon!

Just to chime in, the biggest issue around reverb links is when people try with a listing link rather than a product link that we can use with Reverb's API.

Here's an example: Individual listing link: https://reverb.com/item/82449065-wampler-germanium-tumnus Product link: https://reverb.com/p/wampler-germanium-tumnus

Unfortunately, we need the /p/ in the URL to get the data we need from Reverb.

I looked at their Equipboard history and they're definitely a troll. I've made it so they can no longer edit the items or add submissions.

Yeah, it's context dependent. If the gear was used to make music, it's allowed.

We're working on improving our data on the backend. We used to allow anyone to add anything, but it led to a ton of duplicates because there wasn't a standard way to add so that we could identify it.

So, we're going to consolidate colors down to one model so that we can make the connection of who plays what so that people can find it better, then add finish/color data back.

Sorry it's taking a while to make the progress we want, but hope the goal makes sense.

An overdue improvement to item categorization, introducing a new category:

Guitar Pedals & Effects > Amp & Cabinet Simulators

We took a first pass at moving items into this category, so hopefully the initial glance looks ok!

Sorry for the inconvenience.

The reason for this is we need certain URL link structures to work with the APIs from Sweetwater and Reverb.

For example, the reason the Sweetwater link you referenced isn't showing up is because it is out of stock and not available for purchase. That means Sweetwater takes it out of their API feed, and we can't get a price for it. That's why we don't show it as a purchase option on Equipboard.

With Reverb, we need their product pages (as opposed to a single listing) that have /p/ in them. In this example, we'd need this page https://reverb.com/p/roger-linn-linnstrument-usb-midi-controller rather than this page https://reverb.com/item/80502350-roger-linn-linnstrument-2010s-standard . Unfortunately, many items on Reverb don't have corresponding Product pages, which can make things frustrating.

I hope that clears some things up, but please let me know if you have any more questions!

This month, I'll be working with Su (our talented designer) to rethink Equipboard's product pages, example here. In addition to brining it up to speed with our current design language, I want to rethink how the page should be organized and what features are useful.

So, answer me these questions three:

• 1. What's your favorite thing about Equipboard's product pages?
• 2. What's your biggest problem with Equipboard's product pages?
• 3. What's a feature we could add to improve it to make it the best page on the internet for music gear?

I agree with you @pkennethk, and brought that feedback to our designer. We'll just do the grid and concentrate on making that experience good.

I'm not confident, but the controls, fretboard markers, and pickups all look to be a match.

What is the high priority info for these item cards? If you're OK do drop the price and affiliate link info on the smaller card view, then I'd recommend dropping it for all card views. That said, if you guys see having the prices and affiliate links in the item card as a high priority, then put it in all card views.

To me, the highest priority of these cards is to quickly communicate that these are products that this musician has used to make music, and you can dive in to learn more context about that usage, as well as jump in to getting more info about the actual product itself. I hear you about the disconnect between displaying affiliate links in one view and not another. When I look back at the data from designs past, it mostly seems like people find a way to click a link if they are interested or not whether or not it is on the artist page or not. I don't know exactly what is optimal to do here, but I do like that the designer is giving us elements we can use or not while we have her attention on this page.

Personally, I'm not big on having 2 different view modes... I almost always just stick with the default on most sites I frequent (I'm lazy like that)... though, I certainly understand the urge to please everyone when designing stuff, destructive as it can be... I've definitely been there.

• There is a selection where you toggle the view between 3 items or 1 item per row
• The menu is back on the left-hand side of the page instead of the current side scroll version
