if I want a high end reel to reel sound, I use my Nagra IV-S. I do use RND 542 and 5042 tape emulators
Favourite piece of musical kit?
"I had this question before, but it hasn’t changed, it’s still my Nagra IV-S reel-to-reel. It’s just a gorgeous object, and it’s reliable and I’ve discovered some magical tricks with it. Even though it’s just an analogue tape recorder, it’s an important part of my musical process. I use it on every track I write in some way or another."
The description of this video of Bibio says, "Capturing sounds with a vintage Sennheiser MD-21 microphone, then using the EMU SP1200 for its inimitable fidelity, then resampled and sequenced on an Akai MPC 5000."
In the Relayproject article "Hedged in by Bibio," Bibio discusses incorporating the Telefunken Magnetophon 302 into his setup, highlighting his use of tape in studio recording.
In the video of a session in Bibio's home studio, the Akai MFC42 is both seen and identified out in the description.
In the rack on the left. It's white but the word ensemble can clearly be made out

"Most of ‘A Mineral Love’ and the whole of ‘The Serious EP’ was mixed on the 5088."
I also recently got a TR-808 and a Maestro MRK mk2, I have a thing for those old drum machines.
In a feature on Deep Signal Studios, Bibio is shown using the Akai S3000XL in his studio setup.
Video is a bit dated (September 2011) and the shots of the APC are a bit hairy but at 0:48 it's pretty clear he's using an APC 20
In a 2012 photo of Bibio's studio, the TL Audio 5013 Parametric EQ is visible in the rack on the left, as shown on Deepsignalstudios.
I used to use software convolution reverb mostly but last year I got a Bricasti M7 and tend to have that on an aux send/return on the console.

You can sse the Series 1 from the 1st moments of the video & all thru the attached video.
In a video posted by Bibio from his live performance at TAICO 2017 in Nagano, Japan, a still image shows the Radial Workhorse Cube positioned next to the mixer, just below the Roland TR-808. This setup aligns with Bibio's known gear preferences as documented on Equipboard.
In the live performance video "With the Thought of Us" at Taico 2017, Bibio's setup includes the OTO Bam Space Generator. The device is visible just right of center, in front of the Radial Workhorse, supporting its use in his live set.
The limiter is referenced in the description and finally shown at the end of the video, made during a session in Bibio's home studio.
In the video, made during a session in Bibio's home studio, the vocoder is shown at 1:39, sitting underneath the limiter referenced in the description.
"I did have a go at mixing this on the 5088 but I had a bunch of outboard processors on parts of the mix that I didn’t successfully recreate when I came to re-mix it on the 5088. Stuff like a custom made valve amplifier (for distortion) on the drums, Chandler Zener limiter and probably some other things."
I now use outboard preamps, mostly lunchbox preamps but also some rack pres, going directly into my UA Apollo 16 or via outboard EQ/compressors, such as an 1176.
My main machine for playing the tape loops was an Akai valve reel to reel recorder.
Theo built me a valve distortion unit which I am extremely happy with. The audio and build quality of the unit is exceptional. He has included parameters and functions that are not found on 'off the peg' units". Theo was very thorough and very helpful in explaining and demonstrating the functions of the unit to me, you can clearly see he is genuinely passionate about his work." - Bibio (Warp Records).
In a tweet, Bibio refers to the Cartec EQP-1A Pultec EQ as a "real buddy," indicating its valued role in his studio setup.
Bibio is confirmed to use the Drawmer 1968 Mercenary Edition, as evidenced by a studio photo from Deepsignalstudios. The gear is identifiable by its distinctive yellow knobs and the "Mercenary Edition" yellow logo on the right end.
