Calvin Harris

Calvin Harris can be seen creating tracks on his MacBook Pro. He uses it to make music when he is on the road as well.

The API 1608 console is the centerpiece of Calvin Harris' studio setup.

"All I had was the Amiga 1200, the Korg M5 provided loads of sounds for the first album, a huge, 32-channel Soundcraft mixer, my 950 – at some point, that was upgraded to an S3000 – the Alesis compressors, the Zoom, a Line 6 echo-thingy, a Focusrite VoiceMaster Pro and a couple of AKG C1000 mics. That was it!"

"I needed some sort of compression too, so I put in loads of overtime at work and bought eight Alesis 3630 compressors!"

The audio interface of choice for Calvin Harris, the MOTU 896HD can be seen rack-mounted in his studio. The Miloco Builds website details, "Calvin Harris needed to float the floor of his control room and then supply and fit a dark oak floor. The Line 6 Echo Pro is spotted in a rack in Calvin Harris' music studio.

"I remember going totally over the top with the Akai S950 – I managed to get it off this bloke in Carlisle for 200 quid."

Starting around 4:00 in the video, Calvin Harris picks up the AXiS 49 in his studio and talks a bit about it: "This thing is quite interesting, this is like the new type of keyboard. You play chords on it like this [demonstrates], but it teaches you the relationship of the notes between all the chords so you come up with different chord sequences based on weirdness, not actual music [laughs]"
