Cook Craig's Guitars

Zac Eccles, who designed and made Stu's Flying Microtonal Banana, made this guitar for Cook, per this reddit post and his instagram. Cook has been using this as his main guitar for most of 2017.

It disappeared for sometime, but has recently made a return to the King Gizzard arsenal as a microtonal instrument.

Cook Craig, known for his work with King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard, uses a Fender Jazzblaster. This is evident from a photo posted by Melbourne Guitar Repair by Jeb Cardwell on Facebook, which shows the guitar with its distinctive removed Jazzmaster rhythm circuit and similar pickup configuration.

In a performance photo from Gettyimages, Cook Craig of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard is seen playing a Rickenbacker 610 Electric Guitar, identified by its dot inlays and lack of binding, characteristic of the 600 series.

At timestamp 0:46 in the promotional video for King Gizzard's Flying Microtonal Banana album, you can see Cookie playing the instrument. It does appear throughout the rest of the video, and unfortunately I could not identify a make or specific model of the instrument. All I know is that it appears to have mosrite-like pickups, a jazzmaster tremolo, and microtonal fretwork.

In a YouTube video from the early days of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, Cook Craig can be seen playing a Fender Mustang Electric Guitar with a natural finish and a black pickguard. The video, titled "KG&TLW - Crookedile," was recorded at Boogie 6 in Tallarook on April 8, 2012.

Cook used a Gibson SJ-200 Standard with an Antique Natural finish on this 2014 acoustic performance of Sleepwalker.

In the 'Dragon' music video, Cookie can be seen with a Gibson Corvus. I am unsure if it is his or borrowed from another member however he uses for essentially the duration of the video. Its hard to tell what pickups he has on it, because of the dark lighting in the video. We get some shots of it at: 2:00, 7:03, and 7:52.

Originally used by Stu Mackenzie to replace the Holy Explorer, this guitar is now used by Cook Craig as his metal guitar as of their Boston Calling performance.

Cookie is featured on Novo Guitars' website under their 'Artist' page. His custom Serus J is visible in the photo. This is also confirmed in this Instagram post:

Specs vary between each of these guitars, so it is difficult to identify the exact spec of Cookie's guitar. However, this closeup is the best available and shows his Serus J is loaded with humbuckers and has a stop tail bridge.

This photograph was taken in an Australian music store prior to their performance at "Play on the Plains" in Deniliquin on 9th March 2024. On the very far right, a Yamaha SG-85 can be spotted.

Cookie can be seen playing it during the "Play on the Plains" show, particularly for the metal tracks. This video of 'Dragon' demonstrates this:

In this performance of King Gizzard's song "Dragon", as well as other songs in C# or Drop B on the last tour, Cook has played a Serus J Baritone in the black finish, sporting the products standard Lollar Mini-Broilers. Cook has notably modified his to have a string-thru system as opposed to the mastery vibrator arm that usually comes on all Serus J models, as he generally has never used a whammy bar. This is also backed up by photos posted by Novo Guitars of Cook playing both his Serus J (or perhaps Serus h2, since it has humbuckers and a tele bridge) and his baritone model.

Cook Craig was seen performing with a Yamaha SG-5A guitar during King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard's concert at Forest Hills Stadium in New York in August 2025. Photographic evidence from the event clearly shows the guitar's distinctive adjustable bridge, Yamaha logo on the headstock, and the later-style tremolo unit, which are characteristic features of the SG-5A model.
