Daniel Johns' Effects Pedals
Filter by
Daniel Johns is known to have used the ZVEX Fuzz Factory, notably during Silverchair's "Across the Night" tours. Although images of his pedalboard are scarce post-breakup, the Fuzz Factory is listed among his gear on various sources, including the ZVEX Fuzz Factory's Wikipedia page. This is further supported by a user-uploaded photo on Photobucket.
Taken from this video. During the middle and end you can see a rat sitting by Ben’s drums. It’s hard to make out but during the video the video person gets closer and zooms in sometimes and you can see the word “Rat” on it.

In the user-uploaded photo, Daniel Johns is shown using the Electro-Harmonix Sovtek "Green Russian" Small Stone phaser pedal. Initially, it was mistaken for a Russian Big Muff due to its appearance, but further inspection revealed the two-knob configuration typical of this phaser.
Daniel Johns uses the Boss GE-7 Graphic Equalizer, as shown on his pedalboard in a photo from 2007, uploaded to Wordpress.
He had one on his board from 1996 - 1999. He used it as a huge boost / treble boost.
In the Diorama era he added another one to his board. One used as a boost pedal, one used as a sort of mid boost.
He used it all over the Diorama album, especially on his clean tones
At 6:45 we can see a boss dd20 on his pedalboard
In this picture here from the Diorama recordings you can see the chorus next to the fuzz factory. The original full picture doesn’t fit here but either click on this or copy and paste it - https://imgur.com/a/YJZzwAR
A user-uploaded photo shows the Boss OC-2 Octaver on Daniel Johns' pedalboard alongside the Fuzz Factory, indicating its use from around 2000 to 2003 and beyond.
At 6:45 we can see a Whammy on the pedalboard
Used on his pedalboard from 2002 til the end of silverchair. He used this pedal heaps in diorama album and also live. On the album he'd use it to thicken up distorted tones. Live, he'd use it to get a crazy buzz-saw fuzz sound with a subtle low octave beneath it. Notably used on The Lever and the end of Without You
In a recent studio photo featured in the Newcastle Herald, Daniel Johns is seen using multiple Fender pedals, including the Fender Pour Over Envelope Filter.
Seen here at the top right. This was a picture posted about a year ago and I just flipped it and saw the pedal.
In an article by Damon Cronshaw for the Newcastle Herald, Daniel Johns is mentioned using the Fender Bubbler Analog Chorus Pedal in a recent studio session, fueling speculation about a potential Silverchair reunion.
Seen at the top right of his studio Diorama board. As far as I’ve seen, he barely used it. It was more of a backup.
Seen here at the right of his board. It was basically used to switch between amps when changing guitars to make less noise.
Seen at the bottom of this picture. Used during the Young Modern tour.
In a user-uploaded photo, Daniel Johns' Radial BigShot MIX Wet-Dry Effects Loop is visible just above his Digitech Whammy pedal. Despite the photo's low quality, the distinctive features of the BigShot MIX are discernible.
In the fourth paragraph of the source "silverchair - orchestral tear cash-flow - Guitar Gear," it is mentioned that Daniel Johns uses the Dunlop Mister Cry Baby Super Wah/Volume pedal.
In an Instagram post by @thehoardingchair, an Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer can be seen on top of some rack gear associated with Daniel Johns during the "I Can't Believe It's Not Rock" shows, as captured in a postcard from around the year 2000 by Gary Johnston.
Contrary to popular belief and what is currently on equipboard, Daniel did not use a boss DD-5, DD-6 or DD-7. He used a Boss DD-3 from the very beginning.
This is a photo from the Royal Easter show in 1996. Note how on the input side of the pedal, an arrow pointing to the right can be seen. Also how theres more text on the bottom than the the top. This is the direct out from a boss DD3. This is not on any other boss delay
