Dee Dee Ramone

This was one of the customized Dee Dee's basses and the last bass guitar he used with Ramones, it can be seen in Ramones clip, Pet Sematary.

Dee Dee Ramone frequently played a Fender Precision Bass, notably a black model with a black pickguard, during the years 1975 to 1977. A user-uploaded photo on Sayidaty provides visual evidence of this bass in his collection.

This bass is suposed to be one of the first basses that Dee Dee owned in his life and career. He appears holding it in a 1975 photo in front of CBGB´s. Although there are little to none photos of him actually playing with it, most appear to believe that it was with that instrument that Dee Dee played with on the Ramones earliest performances and recordings.

Used very early on, purchased from Manny’s 23rd January 1974 the same day Johnny purchased his blue Mosrite. Can be heard on the 915 Demo sessions and at a couple of early CBGB Gigs.

The last custom ESP bass was this copy of a Gibson Thunderbird. It features a red chinese dragon and "RAMONES" in black letters. This bass appeared in late 1988 and Dee Dee used it until he left the Ramones in July 1989.

Dee Dee used one of these from 1983-1988, i know this is not the best quality image but is the only one i could get with Dee Dee using this bass guitar.

DeeDee played this bass at least on his last set of tours from 200-2002, not sure of anytime before then. this bass company was quicky bought out by danelectro, so these basses are now hard to find.

1986-88 In the late '80s Dee Dee began using basses made by ESP. This ESP is of course based on a Precision but Fender made them change the headstock design.

This November 15, 2018 auction states:

"Circa 1978 Guild B301-A electric bass guitar with a natural finish, serial number 196556, personally played by original Ramones bassist Dee Dee Ramone during sound check before a show at My Father's Place in Roslyn, New York, on July 5, 1978, with Ramone etching his name and date into the black pickguard, “Dee Dee Ramone, 7/5/78.” An off-white “Ramones” bass pick is taped to upper horn. Includes the well-worn hardshell carrying case. In very good to fine condition, with heavy wear to the case, and expected light wear to the bass.

Accompanied by two photos bearing images of Ramone playing and etching the offered bass, and a letter of authenticity signed by longtime Ramones tour manager Monte A. Melnick, which reads, in full: “This Guild Bass owned by Roger Risko friend, Super Fan and contributor to the Ramones 40th Anniversary Exhibition was very nicely electronically engraved by Dee Dee Ramone and played during a sound check on July 5th, 1978 at the club ‘My Father’s Place’ in Roslyn, NY.”

The consignor notes that the original recipient, ‘Rockin’ Roger Risko, who brought the engraving kit to the show, later applied Wite-Out to the etch to better emphasize Ramone’s signature. Although bass guitars signed by Dee Dee Ramone are occasionally offered at auction, basses featuring irremovable etched signatures are undeniably rare, with this potentially being the only example extant. Given the uniqueness of the signature, in addition to the date of its signing—just the fourth show to feature new drummer Marky Ramone—this Dee Dee-used and –etched bass is an outright punk rock rarity."

Dee Dee Ramone played a Model T Schecter Bass on February 25, 2001 in San Francisco, California at the Covered Wagon Saloon. This style Bass can be seen in this YouTube video.
