Jim Messina's Gear
In this photo, Messina is performing with 1995 Fender American Standard Stratocaster which has gold-plated pickguard.
Messina regularly answers the comments section. On question how he got the tone on "Loggins and Messina" recordings, he said :
Well, that is a long question... Here's a list of items you can sort through: 1956 Telecaster, 1957 Strat, black face twin and super reverb, a MXR Dyna Comp and MXR Phase 90 pedal, and a lot of trial and error.
In this photo, Messina can be seen with a Taylor 414ce. As he says himself in this Facebook post, he uses this guitar to "practice diminished scales".
On question if he still plays Ovation guitars, Messina answered :
I don't but my guitarist Gary Oleyar does and enjoys playing it on stage with me. I have resolved myself to playing the Gibson(s) (e.g. Doves in flight and the Montana Gold) and the Taylor's (the older 615's) and their newest 618e which is an exceptional instrument to play!
In the original promotional video for "Crazy Love" by Poco, Jim Messina is seen playing an Ovation 1658 Legend Custom 12-String guitar. This mid-1970s video, available on YouTube via tennesseeconcerts, highlights Messina's use of this distinctive composite bowl 12-string guitar. While Randy Meisner is also featured playing a 12-string guitar in the video, Messina's choice of the Ovation model adds a unique acoustic quality to the performance. "Crazy Love" remains a timeless classic, celebrated for its acoustic and acoustic-electric sound.
On Radial's website, Messina was mentioned as user of Radial JD7 Signal Distribution System.
On Radial's website, Messina was mentioned as user of Radial SGI Guitar Interface.
