Johnny Winter's Guitars
In this "Rig Rundown" from Premier Guitar, Johnny talks about The Lazer saying, "It's a really great guitar. It doesn't get out of tune. It's got a really nice, trebly sound. I always liked the way the Fenders sound and the way the Gibsons played and it does- it plays like a Gibson, it's got a nice thin neck, but it sounds more trebly than most Gibsons do. It's not really like a Fender, it's got its own original sound...".
In the accompanying article, Premier Guitar writes, "Though best known for his Gibson Firebird (pictured), Winter's main axe is a Lazer from Erlewine Guitars. Winter says he prefers the Lazer because it stays in tune, sounds trebly like a Fender, but plays like a Gibson. The pictured Firebird is used primarily for slide and is kept in open D tuning. The bridge was modified before he purchased it".

In this YouTube clip from the 1969 Memphis Country Blues Festival, Johnny Winter is seen playing his heavily modified Fender Mustang Electric Guitar. In old interviews, Johnny has expressed a preference for brighter Fender-like tones on shorter scale guitars, which perhaps explains his choice of the Mustang here. It is understood that this guitar was used on his early album "Progressive Blues Experiment" and his subsequent first album with CBS, "Johnny Winter" (Source: https://andyaledort.com/johnny-winter-interview-april-2004/").
