Luke Vibert's Gear
Interview from 2008 : "[I use] Reason at the amount. [...] I can complete a track 100% using Reason but I don’t use many of their sounds, which is where my synths come in handy – I like having a hard drive full of synth sounds and drum hits. I have done a few tracks where it’s all Reason, but it’s taken me so much longer to make it sound passable to my ears."
In an interview with ResidentAdvisor, Luke answered the question : "- Is 909 better than 606? - Yeah, you can't even compare them. They're both drum machines but the 909 is brutal. [...] My 909 is broken, annoyingly, and no one can fix it. "
An image of Vibert using Traktor Pro 2 can be seen in this blog by Fabric on his Discogs Mix #1, which mentions "...By his fans, he’s widely regarded as a genre-polymath and something of a demi-god. Put him on the (Traktor) decks and the same can be said for the far ranging navigation of beats he lays down..."
Luke is using a MacBook in this live performance.
In this interview with Barcodezine, Luke says: "I do have the MOTU Digital Performer because I had to record in some old 4-track stuff recently. I found this old pile of 4-track tapes."
"I’ve also got a Yamaha CS15 which I run a lot of things through. [...] It's got a great filter on it, which I can send the 303 through and filter it on there rather than on the 303. Then you get the really anal people saying “oh, that filter on the 303 is different, what have you done to it?” “Not telling!”"
"I love the Roland 101 and 303 for synths and the SH1000 is really nice for samples."
Per Nextmusic Magazine, July/August 2001 "Now (Vibert) works with a Roland S760 (with eight minutes sampling time) and an Atari 1040 STE (upgraded to 4MB)"
Additionally, Vibert is quoting as having an Atar-based studio in a 1997 interview for Disquiet: Regarding his studio Vibert states: “It’s a very tiny work space, just in my corner. On my left I’ve got my old Atari and a sampler and a mixing desk, and then on my right there’s just one keyboard and the effects unit. And that’s it.”
Given the date of the Nextmusic interview, it's possible the majority of Vibert's realeases between 1993 and (at least) 2001 were sequenced with an Atari STE.
"It wasn’t until the early nineties [93-ish] that I started really diving into Cubase and pulling all the individual hits/samples out from their suggested computerised positions [S.C.P.] and placing them in new slightly loose/funky territory! [N.S.L.F.T.]" - email interview by Chris Oldaker
Per Resident Advisor, May 15, 2019:
The new LP from the well-established UK artist is the 20th release on Posthuman's I Love Acid label. Naturally, Vibert used the Roland TB-303—along with the TR-808 and the JX-3P—to craft Valvable's ten tracks. In keeping with the theme, I Love Acid will release 303 copies on coloured vinyl, with a black version released in an edition of 808.

"I often use a Pearl Syncussion box to make mad bass lines, but again I’ve got so many samples of it already, kicks and long bass notes, that I tend to be able to use them instead of getting the synths out again."
