Paul Raven's Gear
Not certain if its the Mk 2 Wal Bass but Paul Raven can be seen using a Wal Bass throughout Killing Joke's live performances and music videos
As seen in the music and live videos from that era, the Status was Raven's main bass during the recording of 'Night Time' and the promotional videos and tour.
Can be seen in this photo with the Schecter Model T bass
In the music video for "Snap Your Fingers, Snap Your Neck" by Prong, Paul Raven can be seen playing a Music Man Stingray bass.
In this video you can see Paul Raven playing a MusicMan Cutlass 1 bass in natural finish. For those of you who don't know: MusicMan used to put graphite-necks from 'Modulus' on their 'Stingray'- and 'Sabre'-basses around 1980 and than they were called 'Cutlass I' (for a Stingray) or 'Cutlass II' (for a 'Sabre'). You can tell the difference because of the black headstock made out of graphite, they were no 'Stingrays' with dark or painted headstocks available in those days. Paul Raven also had a complete black 'Cutlass I', which he plays in another Killing Joke-video of that time. He seemed to love non-wood-necks (no 'dead spots' possible compared to wood-necks...), because he also played a Status and a Steinberger with graphite- or carbon-necks.
Can be seen in this photo with a Schecter Black Ultra Bass
In a tribute video titled "Jaz Coleman Talks About Paul Raven Life & Death" on YouTube, at 0:12, the bassist from Killing Joke is seen playing a Rickenbacker 4001. This video honors Paul Raven after his passing. However, due to the poor picture quality, it's unclear if the bassist shown is Paul Raven or Martin "Youth" Glover, the original Killing Joke bassist known for playing Rickenbackers.
On this photo you can see Raven playing a Warwick Vampyre NT while playing with Killing Joke, standing next to Jaz Coleman. Astoria London, October 14 2005.
In the 1985 "Love Like Blood" music video by Killing Joke, Paul Raven can be seen playing a Status Series II bass guitar.
