My new 1988 Brazilian Mahogany Wal Mk2 No mods best bass in the world I think beautifull bass with a supremely playable neck and amazing sound, I strung it with flats but this thing disagreed with them so I put rounds on it and now If I do a session I take this with rounds and my 67 EB-3 with the flats on it.

How to tell which Wal model is which.
There is very little difference in tonal qualities for the Wal basses. They all feature the same circuitry that gives them their signature growl. The differences actually lay in the appearances between the MK 1, 2, and 3 bodies.
The MK 1 features short, stubby horns and a flat back end. They closely resemble a Fender Precision bass that has been squished bridge to neck.
The MK 2 features a much longer top horn but is generally the same shape as a 1.
The MK 3 features the longer horn of the MK 2 but also adds in a slanted back end behind the bridge, running from the strap peg inward and upward towards the players chest. The one for this entry is actually an MK 3. The angle of the photo makes it harder to distinguish it from a 2 and 3 but zooming in shows the angle wood cut behind the bridge.

Flea used a blue model of this bass in studio during the recording of the album "Blood Sugar Sex Magic". He used this bass on every song exept "Funky Monks" and "The Righteous and the Wicked" (he used a 5 strings musicman stingray on these). We can see him with this bass in the docummentary "Funky Monks", in the video for "Suck my Kiss" and in some live shows in 1991 on youtube.
During the Roll the Bones era Geddy played a Cherry Red Wal Bass.
During current live shows when playing for Tool he uses his Wal MK 2 bass mainly
John Deacon played a Wal Mk II Bass during a jam session with Martin Chambers of the Pretenders and tennis player Vitas Gerulaitis in 1983, although he did not own the instrument, according to Peter Hince in 2004. Additionally, Deacon is seen using the Wal Mk II Bass at The Prince's Trust Rock Concert in 1988, as shown in the YouTube video featuring Joe Cocker and Brian May. It remains unclear whether he used this bass on his solo project, "Man Friday and Jive Junior."
In this photo, Greg Lake of Ringo Starr & His All-Starr Band, Emerson Lake & Palmer, and Emerson Lake & Powell, is playing a Wal Bass.
John can be seen using this bass in Band-aid's Do they know it's Christmas music video at 2:03
Not certain if its the Mk 2 Wal Bass but Paul Raven can be seen using a Wal Bass throughout Killing Joke's live performances and music videos
In this video of XTC from the David Letterman show in 1989, you can see Colin playing his Wal bass while singing "King for A Day" from their album "Oranges and Lemons."
