Phil Caivano's Gear
Phil Caivano’s go-to 6-string for songs that require him to tune down to C standard is this 1970s “sandwich-bodied” Gibson Les Paul Standard. It still has the original ’bucker in the neck, but he swapped the bridge model for a DiMarzio PAF Pro. Since it’s tuned lower, and Phil likes to keep the guitars feeling similar, he goes with Dunlop .013–.060 strings to mimic the tension in the other guitars.

"I have had a Palmer ADIG-LB for years in my studio. It has been flawless in every way I have used it. I originally purchased it for my home recording purposes to eliminate having to mic up a loud amp. For that it was great. Little did I know at the time it is way more useful than just that. As my studio has expanded I have found many ways to use it as a complete studio tool. I use it to record Guitar, Bass and even Vocals. It is incredible to reamp any signal threw. It’s a main stay on all of my projects and Monster Magnet Records."
During his formative years, Phil Caivano was always in awe of the full-stack, 100-watt, rock-n-roll firepower unleashed by Alice Cooper and Thin Lizzy, so it only makes sense he plugs into this late ’90s Marshall 1959 SLP Plexi reissue. It has been modded by Matt Wells to sound and react closer to a vintage JMP. The head powers two Metropoulos True Replica 1967 Era 4x12 cabs. The top cabinet has Celestion G12H-75 Creambacks and the bottom cab houses Heritage Series G12Hs.

"We recently tried the Palmer Di's for our live shows and we really loved them. We also tried the Palmer Power Pad PDI06L08 Power Attenuators. They are great! Having to deal with Db levels in most of the clubs these days it was a must. The Power Pad enabled us to get our tones without having to play at the volume we are used to playing. They are an essential tool for us to have these days!"

Superfuzz can be seen throughout this video. So can the Maxon Air, but whether Phil did more than demo the Maxon Air isn't clear.
