Stephen Egerton's Guitars
"Recently I got a new Music Man guitar called the StingRay. It’s sort of a recreation of the guitar that Leo Fender launched Music Man with before Ernie Ball bought the company. I’ve had this guitar for two months now, and it’s maybe my favorite guitar I’ve ever had. There’s a little something special about it sonically. I wish I’d had it when we recorded the album, although maybe it would have only made a subtle difference."
"I’ve been playing Music Man guitars now for coming up on 20 years. I think I got my first one in 1997. I call her Old Gray—she’s a gray Axis and that’s what I used on this last record."
Stephen Egerton uses the Ampeg Dan Armstrong Plexi Electric Guitar during performances with FLAG, as seen on his Instagram.
Stephen could clearly be seen playing a Silhouette.
Stephen states that the first guitar he got when he joined The Descendents was a Kramer Baretta. He states that he went into a guitar store, and tried several guitars, and liked the kramer because it was the easiest to play
In this video for premier guitar, Stephen runs down his live rig. One of the guitars he uses is his signature music man stingray. Stephen states that he has played music man since the 90s. he stated that he liked the shape of the stingray. it reminded him of the jaguar he had as a kid. The guitar is based on a prototype stingray he was sent by music man. Music man moded the guitar for him to only have one pickup. He also had them remove the knobs and switches, because that is something he doesn't need for his playing style.
During a live show recorded on March 24, 1987, at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis, Stephen Egerton can be seen playing a Kramer Baretta equipped with a Floyd Rose Tremolo System. This guitar may have also been used in Descendents' 1987 record ALL.
Stephen Egerton is confirmed to use the Ampeg AMG100, as seen in the 1989 live concert video of ALL, available on YouTube by Retro Punk Hardcore Vids.
