Tyler Joseph's Software Plugins and VSTs
The beginning sound is from the preset "Just Horrible" under the "Textures and FX" tab. It comes standard with reFX Nexus 2.
It is also heard in fake out out at 2:13 with the Benny Dance SEQ A preset under Single Layered Sequenced tab. You can also hear at 0:00 the preset Adagio under the Dance Leads tab being used as the main synth that is heard throughout the entire track.
"Dance Piccolo" of the Classical library in stock Nexus 2 is used for "Stressed Out".

You can hear the sound "Wing Upright - Lonely Basement" Throughout this song and also the entirety of trench. (Jumpsuit, Morph, Chlorine, Smithereens, Neon Gravestones, The hype, Bandito, Pet Cheetah, Leave the City) Along with other presets from this plugin (Weltmeister Claviset EP - Retropluck, Rhodes 1946 Pre-Piano - Retrospace, etc.)
In a user-uploaded photo, Tyler Joseph is shown using the Xfer Serum Advanced Wavetable Synthesizer to create the main synth lead for the song "Holding On To You," specifically employing the SY Monotone synth voice.
Uses MIDI sounds from Mainstage 3. He has used mainstage early on in the band's carrer as well as some midi sounds used for his Storyteller Performance at Audacy Music.
"Tyler Joseph’s vocal chain begins with a Shure KSM9HS handheld condenser head on a Shure Axient wireless, then into the C6, MaxxVolume, then into the dbx 160 and a de-esser before going into the console EQ." - FOH Engineer: Shane Bardiau

In the song “No Chances” by twenty one pilots, you can hear various presets from this synthesizer emulation. The intro bass comes from the default patch titled: “Volt-Aged Piano”, the siren-type sound comes from the preset: Deckards Drone and an arp during the intro is from a preset called: “Cycling Rotation”. Given that Tyler has been seen with another plugin (Solina V) from Arturia, along with sounds from Jup-8 V, we can infer that he has this one too. This essentially confirms that Buchla Easel V is the source of many of the sounds on “No Chances”.
Jup-8 V by Arturia makes an appearance on the song “Mulberry Street” in the second verse with a sound called “Warm and Dark”. It also appears on “No chances” with a bass sound called “Throttle Bass”. Tyler has previously been seen with another plugin from Arturia (Solina V) so it’s more than possible this is what Tyler used in “No Chances” and “Mulberry Street”.
0:26 The Pop/Rock Kit is used throghout all of RAB & a handful of song in Self-Titled.
At 1:14 into the Jar Of Hearts cover you can clearly hear autotune doubled with a vocoder. It is used through the song but is most noticeable on the high notes.
You can recreate this exact sound by turning the retune speed all the way up and having no flex tune (On latest autotune release) you can tell it's this plugin becuase when you sing the low notes at 0:44 of the cover with these settings you hear the exact same audio distortion and strange pitch bend.
"In this user-uploaded photo, Tyler Joseph is seen using the Arturia Solina V Software Synthesizer."
Tyler Joseph is shown utilizing the Native Instruments NI Maschine software, as evidenced by his Instagram post discussing the creation of "Trench" in his home studio. The post highlights his need for a comprehensive setup, which includes the Maschine software integral to his recording process.
In Formidable, the preset 'passenger c' from Native Instruments' strummed acoustic can unmistakeable be heard all throughout the track.
In the track "Smithereens" by Tyler Joseph of twenty one pilots, the Subliminal Kit from the 'Vintage Dry' expansion for XLN Audio Addictive Drums 2 is used. The main beat's MIDI is sourced from the Addictive Drums library, specifically "Dry Beat 04 - 16th Hi Hats." Additional beats from this library appear in "Chlorine," "Jumpsuit," "My Blood," and "The Outside." Notably, both "My Blood" and "The Outside" utilize "Song 14 - Disco Beat."
The preset, 'Sequencer Bass' from Arturia's DX7 V is being used and can be heard starting in the opening of the track and played throughout.
The main drum loop used in Redecorate can be found in Splice as 'SO_ORIC_95_drum_loop_rideywonk'
In the YouTube video "Two - Piece (Episode 01 - Regional at Best: The Web Series)" by twenty one pilots, Tyler Joseph is seen using Toontrack EZDrummer. The original EZDrummer 1, specifically the Pop/Rock EZX core library, was utilized for their self-titled and "Regional At Best" albums. At 3:54 in the video, a computer screen displays a Logic Pro project with an instrument labeled “drums,” indicating a VST plugin, likely EZDrummer, though the plugin itself is not directly shown.
During the YouTube livestream for Vessel’s 10th anniversary, Tyler showed a project file for the background loops he used during the acoustic performances. On the percussion track for “Screen”, he is seen bypassing and engaging RC-20 Retro Colour by XLN Audio.
During the YouTube livestream for Vessel’s 10th anniversary, Tyler shows some old demos from the record. In the project file for “Trees”, Melodyne is seen engaged on the lead vocal track. It is unclear however, which version of Melodyne he has.
In a breakdown by producer Paul Meany of the song "Next Semester," Paul Meany shares that Tyler Joseph used Native Instruments Guitar Rig 7 Pro on a ukulele to achieve the iconic electric guitar-esque tone. According to Meany, when working with Guitar Rig, "I'm getting out the chair and letting Tyler do his thing." (Source: YouTube, 1PM Music, "Paul Meany - Twenty One Pilots - Next Semester - Production Peek")
In the song "Midwest Indigo" from the record Clancy, the lead synth at the beginning comes from the preset "Demacro" on the Arturia Prophet-5 V. This can be verified by comparing it to the demonstration video by Nick Brown on YouTube, where it is the first preset featured.
In the YouTube video titled "Paul Meany - Twenty One Pilots - Next Semester - Production Peek" Paul Meany discusses Tyler Joseph's use of the Soundtoys Little Alterboy plugin at the 0:52 mark.
In the video titled "Paul Meany - Twenty One Pilots - Next Semester - Production Peek" by 1PM Music on YouTube, at 0:34, Paul Meany demonstrates the use of Native Instruments Guitar Rig 6 on the channel strip for the song "Next Semester." Later in the video, Meany mentions that Tyler Joseph, the artist, is fond of using Guitar Rig.
