“Desert Island Guitar”

“If I had to pick just one, this would be it.”

“Best £800 ever spent in my life.”

“So easy to play, incredible variety of tones, beautiful sounding from stock workhorse guitar that will stay beside me until I croak.”

“Especially new players: MEXICAN FENDERS - start here and you won’t go far wrong.“

“This is how we lay clean, tight guitar and bass parts - this thing is always on, writing, tracking, performing.”

“Does both: grabs peaks on way in and the second stage sustains, so all those rhythmic nuances and harmonics come out through the amp.”

“Very dynamic piece, once you’ve got your ‘always on’ sound, lots of different ways it responds to playing style and input gainstaging eg. Back off guitar volume knob.”

“When you bowl up to the studio with one of these, expect raised engineer eyebrows - until they hear it.”

“I haven’t A/B’d it with anything, i just hit my guitar and it sounds wonderful, that’s all I know - full, dynamic, responsive.”

“It’s big and heavy. It’s on my modified pedal board and comes everywhere with me. I wouldn’t be without it.”

“So glad I didn’t cheap out on this critical part of the signal chain.“

“I wasn’t 100% on this stock, so I went with the British Glory mod and the 3 way switch opened up that many new tones, especially clean top boosted ones that we used the TT exclusively for all guitar sounds for this record.”

“This is a great little amp for recording.”

“What they say about Teles and Orange is true - they’re a perfect match.”

“Clean boosted it’s treble can rip your face and ears right off, it’s got that much - so it can cut through anything. Start from that and dial back a bit. It’s got this compressed ‘boxy’ sound that records really easy to a busy mix, loves the Tele, great for low string rhythm parts on position 4.”

“The BG mod claims to make the TT more ‘plexi-like’. Ade Emsley designed the AD30 with that idea originally, so after thinking ‘Dual Terror’, then shopping around other brands quite a bit and coming full circle, it was obvious that ‘Tele + Orange’ was the unique big, clean, treble boosted ‘integral sound’, just more clean headroom needed and enough power to play alongside live drums - so went AD30HTC.”

“Very responsive. Lots of treble if you know where to look. EQ boosts & cuts other bands too - it’s neat.”

“It’s got me dialling in dry signal 1st and bringing sustain in under the natural tone.”

“Beyond pleased, like the sound I heard in my head - but really much better.”

“Very easy to dial in a natural and playable tone, loves the tele, balanced, gorgeous sunny cleans and a beautiful dynamic ‘squish’ into harmonic breakup as you dig in just a bit on the bridge, which i can only think is the valve rectifier. Bridge pickup is where I am now - sounds gorgeous. Bridge needed taming before, now it sings!”

Vinny Miller uses the PRS Hollowbody II Piezo, noting its impressive sound quality even before amplification. He mentions that splitting the hollowbody and piezo outputs between two amps and miking the strings yields a massive sound. This setup is captured in a user-uploaded photo.

“20 more watts, expanded head room and voicing, clean channel open full with a smudge of reverb. You could stay there all day.”

“Pedals in, pedals in loop, pedals post, but somehow it retains it’s core tone through all that.”

“Tele into Orange, clean/edge tone, turn it up loud and smash the bottom string - that’s the sound.

“All synths were done on the OB6. Sequenced in Ableton 11, usually recorded off into clips in session view.”

“OB6 covers a lot of ground. I use a tiny bit of its capability - grabbing bits of melody, it’s fun. You could do a lot more crazy stuff than i do.”

“Bass, strings, brass - credit to those programmers, some beautifully crafted presets.

“A joy to program, often starting from init patch, sometimes you want something cutting through, holding up melody - it does it musically and elegantly for my purposes.”

“You can make it sound very nasty if you try.”

“I had a go at feeding it through clean channel 50w guitar amp, some reverb and through cab IR. Quickly figured the ‘air band’ of the synth was getting chopped off. This is much better DI’ed in stereo.”

“6 voice polyphony at £300 a voice, patch memory and Class Compliant device, shows up in Ableton Preferences, straight away solid sync - never hangs.”
