I’m relatively new at guitar playing and focused primarily on blues. I’ve always played around on modeling amps and couldn’t justify spending the money on a tube amp until I fully dedicated myself to playing as both a recreational and therapeutic outlet. That time came about two years ago. I finally felt like I had gotten to a place where it was critical to get the natural analog tone and vibe of a tube amp. I opted for a Fender pro jr iv se. It is clean, and simple. No frills. The tone hunt was on. I knew what I was generally looking for and didn’t realize the infinite money pit that pedals can quickly become😂 I’ve picked up the Ibanez TS-808 and Boss bd-2w. Love them. No matter what I did, and with all the versatility of tone they provide, it was missing the ethereal raw natural Strat tone that I was looking for. They both have incredibly useful and beautiful tones but there was something missing😒 I even upgraded my pickups to custom shop Texas specials and they are amazing, but I couldn’t get that hollow, airy, clean bellish tone with that creamy hard crunch tail I have been desperately looking for. FINALLY! I now realize I had been looking in the wrong place. A “transparent” overdrive is critical to get not only that iconic tone, but my God, this is the pinnacle of pedals as far as I’m concerned. I’ve spent quite a bit on pedals since getting the amp and I can honestly say that if I could only have one pedal for the red of my life… it’s the Wampler Tumnus deluxe! It’s not even a thought. The eq controls are killer and it’s so incredibly easy to shape your tone with this pedal. If the knobs were all fixed at 12 o’clock position, and were permanently that way… it would still be the only pedal I would keep if I could only have one! It’s truly that good. DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS PEDAL!
