I am only on University holidays. For me it is sweatpants and PGS videos until my wife comes home. Cannot wait for the upgrade to Normans! LOL

Orange Basses

My old bass player used a Yamaha RBX200. Super light and super punchy with a fast neck and great action. Heavy is great but do not biy based on it. I would buy one of these if I needed another bass

Marshall vs. Vox vs. Orange

ye, thats super cool. i might do that... but i feel like i ought to get somethng that isnt designed for one specific thing, and do everythign with it.

Can't hear you.. I'm Playing a Marshall

9yabout 9 years ago

Marshall vs. Vox vs. Orange

i want something that can cover all the bases in my arsenal, so thaqts why its even a question.

I stretch across a few genres (Punk, grunge, hard rock, acoustic, folk, goth, metal, industrial, pop rock) and use a Marshall.

People think Marshall and think GAIN GAIN GAIN.

I run my preamp volume (the gain control) on about 1.5 - 2.

It is a clean sound showing its teeth. And it makes the amp have PLENTY of headroom, and eat up ALL THE PEDALS.

Which is why I run 14 pedals on my board. Because I can.

I can do ANYTHING with my Marshall.

and Because it is a 100w 4x12 Marshall... if you disagree that I can do anything, I will just turn up louder than you.

Jazz guitar recomendations

http://www.mooloolabamusic.com.au/ibanez-af55-tf-artcore-hollow-body-electric-guitar

This finish!!!! It looks like this guitar could tell a million stories.... all made up because it is brand new of course.. but it somehow LOOKS more jazzy.

Jazz guitar recomendations

I think Jazz guitar I think thick hollowbody.... thins like 335's and the like just dont do it justice.

In having a quick look around, have you considered an Ibanez Artcore? The AF55; AF75 and AF95 all fit within your budget and they really look the part.

Sadly, I have not played one to recommend, but they sound delicious in reviews.

Spray can stuff has little effect on Huntsmen. They will white up all covered in foam and charge right at you. I either use hairspray on them and freezelock the hairy bastards or use the can as a club and bash them to death. They do not smear like the little guys and after 3 or 4 decent beltings with the can, they still have enough evil in them to curl up all proper before they die... Not even Glenn from Walking Dead can claim that honor!

Funnel webs and huntsmen are the nasty looking ones all hairy and fangy... Redbacks are fucking sinister looking... no hair like the others.. just high gloss black, really wicked intricate designed looking up close. Deadly as shit too.

Reds aren't big.. kinda sexy small.

Is this in response to the storage complaint? You DO KNOW they don't carry the trapdoor around WITH them don't you?

Kids these days would not even know what a portable hole is!

Solid State vs. Tubes

Peavy used to do multi instrument amps back in the day... Bass/ Keyboard combo... Guitar/ bass combo. Cannot see why they wouldn't be able to do this technology again.

Ask Jim on this one...

Want to start dj

I used to run a 2 x CD system in a Knightclub in a Medieval Theatre Restaurant (No... not a spelling mistake) with a simple desk, cross fader and light and smoke machine and now do swim meets and competitive carnivals with a couple of iPAds into a 4 track mixer fed into the club's PA system. By no means professional, but a sound knowledge of target audience keeps them moving and awareness of BPM keeps the flow. Your drummin gexperience should help greatly withthis, as many people just can't seem to get it right.

Sorry if you were after more about recording side... my DJ experience is purely entertainment.

Thanks all.

I have two guitars on stands in the Family room... Lounge room... one on each side of the TV, then I have 2 more stands in the studio reserved for gigs, and a 7 rack multi I bought a while back for when I record, but it needs to be modified to not lean back so much... it leaves guitars in the middle of the room with their angles. I keep two in cases packed with silica gel and the rest are sitting in a cupboard for now. The plan is wall hangers and custom built frames, but unsure if any hanger will do, or if I need to get the locking types. Anyone had any bad experiences with the hangers you can buy on ebay?

Most people on here have more than one guitar/bass. When you are not playing them do you have them in stands, on multi guitar racks or hanging from the walls or just keep them in cases? Is there a preferred method amongst all of the collective experience on this site?

but these chinese factories pumping out a rainbow of pickguards... the blue pearl I dropped on the Bruise tele was so different to the original from the guitar, I ended up having to modify and re machine it to fit and drill new screw holes in the body.

Your gig checklist

Sorry to not get back to my post straight away... life got busy.

I was just hoping to catch a bit of input from a few different angles.. I have something in the works and wanted to think outside of what I do personally. Any further comments and contributions would be most welcome!

Fender Professional Jaguar questions and ideas

Sadly not quite.

The American vary from Japanese. The imperial to metric conversion misaligns screw holes and pickup positions ever so slightly, but enough to be annoying. Unsure how this translates to Jags made in Mexico or Korea or wherever the pickguards were machined. Hope this helps and is not coming to you too late.

anyone looked at these Dave Friedman pedalboards yet? wow

SWEET! I made a culturally irrelevant statement!

Thanks Mikey for the bail out! Yep.. hood. But I was simply considering the steel (metal/ sheetwork) used in car panels... going to a wreckers (scrap yard/ mechanic/ Panel beater) and grinding out a section (rectangular or square desired shape) from a door or roof or trunk. Figure I can scrounge (scavenge/ repurpose/ recycle/ unlock) up some pretty funky colours (colors.. fuck this is exhausting!) and bend (fold/ hammer/ truncate/ form/ batter) them into the dimensions (lengthy stuff) that I need.

The Big Muff: Original, Mini, or Nano

I find the boutique stuff to sound substantially better than the best muffs... everything thats good about the best examples with a lwoer noise floor and very carefully refined voicing or lots of controls to refine it for yourself. i still don't like the muff much, but my skreddy and stomp underfoot stomped allover all the muffs I owned prior.

Oh they absolutely will! Cannot even pretend to defend on that. The Boutiques will do that and so much more.. build quality and care, selection of components and a decent handful of other considerations thrown in.

I think where I was headed with that blanket statement, was that if someone was SPECIFICALLY after that old Big Muff sound, and did not feel they needed to drift too far from it, then they should grab an old Big Muff or something that does JUST THAT... so that they can know for sure.

Stretching that analogy a bit to take everyone out of the blanket of distotion/ fuzz/ od/ dirt which gets a bit blurred at best of times...I would look at this comparison:

This kinda follows that same principle of someone buying an expensive boutique phase or flange pedal, so they can dial it down to emulate chorus voicings that they heard on a song or an album and liked. While they bought it to reach that desired mark, they will invariably stray from that with every other option present... defeating the initial exercise of wanting that chorus sound to start with... because there are many options present.

So going back to the Big Muff, maybe the OP wants to be able to dial in a sound but also wants the versatility to branch out... then yeah! boutiques open a thousand doors. But to find out if the Big Muff is the sound for you.... start with a Big Muff. Not a double or a Metal or a tone wicker... all trying to compensate for the original circuit. Keep it simple and see how you work with it, and it works for you.
