Complaints, Concerns, Errors, Suggestions, and Ideas! [Feb 2017]

I'd like to see the ability to have multiple sources for each item. If we already have this, I just haven't figure out how to use it.

I think it would add legitimacy to items. If we have 80 sources for Eric Claptons strat or even in the rare item cases where people aren't super sure which photo to go with, we can have all photos of the item from all angles.

OFF TOPIC

I just woke up and ate a cold, uncooked box of Spinach Spanakopita. I'm half tempted to go to Whataburger and grab something. I just don't like waiting. They never have any food pre-cooked and some people might find that appealing. If I'm already eating at a place with a drive-thru window, I would prefer to just pick it up and go. But no, you have to wait 20 minutes at the window each time while they cook everything. Ballz.

are you a DJ or a musician first?

After looking up what that is, I am chomping at the bit for a conversation the topic. I will skip it.

DJ? No, Never. I work with a DJ. He says he gets paid $400 to do unlimited amount of music, which usually comes out to 3-4 hours of work. Me and him have had some hard conversation on the subject. I've asked him what he actually does at these events. He said he just plays whatever music people ask for and does so if he has it. I then asked him what he did that a $200 iPod couldn't do or a phone with bluetooth and a subscription to Pandora for $20. He claimed he got the crowd riled up. I don't recall ever being around a live DJ and feeling their presence at all. At best, my interaction with them is requesting a song that they don't have.

For the price of a DJ, I would rather pay a band to play the gig and tell them in advance what songs I'd like to hear and give them the chance to learn any songs they don't already.

A girl playing Hedwig? Doesn't that kind of hurt the story?

I like the idea of the Russian becoming Hedwig.

I think you nailed it. Maybe its a reissue or something. Thanks Walrus. I was looking for this for Phil Wickham's board.

OFF TOPIC

You should :) We talked about it before. I think there was a thread where we listed our favorite musicals.

I like Hedwig up until close to the end. Something about the ending isn't satisfying for me. When he walks out and sing to an imaginary Gnosis.

I like the small bits of .... I dunno what kind of humor it is. One of my favorite parts is when he's singing the end of the wig song. He sings his line, he looks down, he stamps out a light bulb for no reason, and then moves on. When I worked in the prison, there was an officer who used to sing the songs while we counted at night.

I've never been able to say that I have had the best BBQ. I've been to a ton of places and they all seemed to be roughly the same. They might have had done a certain item better than another place, but then that other place did a different item better. I think I have my place now, and I am mostly basing this on one item.

I went to Bone Daddy's and got their Burnt Ends as a selection on my three meat plate. They were amazing. AMAZING! They tasted slightly of charred marshmallow from an open fire and had that same crispness as well. The inside was tender smoked brisket. It was like eating meth. If you have one of these near you, I recommend going and getting some of these.

Identifying the gear

I don't know much about Gretsch guitars. Certainly not their model numbers. I'm looking for a 6 string version of a Gretsch G5422G-12 Electromatic 12-String Hollowbody Electric Guitar. Everything else the same. Same tailpiece, F holes, number of pots, inlays, color, and pickups. I just need to know what the 6 string clone would be called.

How to get this sound? - Post here to get ideas on how your favourite band gets their sound.

To me, it just sounds like his bass and mid are all the way down while hes picking hard. Gives it that pressed in speaker sound.

New Equipboard Categorization - FAQ & Feedback

I never dragged anything. Just click what cats you want and select YES or SUBMIT or something. Then go to your board and the gear will automatically have been re-arranged. Then you can use the small arrows on the bottom of each item to move them up or down in order.

I've noticed that the check box next to SOURCE NEEDS IMPROVEMENT and NOTES NEED IMPROVEMENT is invisible. It still works if you click in the right spot, but you cannot see it.

I am using Chrome.

Diplomatic Immunity

How far does it go?

If Country A has a law against striking people. Country B does not. Country B sends a dignitary to country A. Dignitary B attacks someone from Country A.

What happens to the victim? What happens to the dignitary?

How often to set-up and restring?

Round. If round hurt your fingers, switch to half wounds. Flats take a lot of the annunciation out of your notes. Sounds like playing a large rubber band or a double bass. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are playing old motown or country.

How often to set-up and restring?

Yes, you will likely have to adjust the nut a bit, or buy a new one... A BRASS one.... because you need to be great!

Gauge is preference. There are 3 I have enjoyed.

Ernie Ball Power Slinky 5 Set - These were medium/high tension and died fairly quickly. Sound was not as impressive as I had hoped.

DR Hi-Beams 135 set- These were SUPER HIGH tension and very ruff on the fingers. The roundwound seems wider than others. They sounded very bright and metallic but almost thin to a point. Not as deep as I like but then again, they were SS and not Nickle. They died VERY quickly as well.

Dunlop Stainless Steel Super Bright 40/120 - These were light/medium tension, small gauge, but brought the deep end to my B. Super comfortable to play on. These strings are th eones I believe were on my custom Carvin when I bought it. They lasted forever with heavy use. Here is a video.

How often to set-up and restring?

You can boil strings in water or let them sit in alcohol. I've not ever tried it myself, but I have talked to some people who claimed it did not bring them back to 100%... just maybe to 80%.

How often to set-up and restring?

Bassist are notorious for not changing their strings. If you have good gear, you can get by with dead strings IF that is the tone you enjoy. La Bella flat-wounds are actually sold among players who look for used strings. Some people really love the dead sound. If you wound brighter, more metallic sounding textures in your tone, change the strings before recordings and live shows. I've never changed my strings on my Carvin because the unknown pair that are on there now had such an amazing feel. They are a little passed where I like them though so I will be changing the strings before I do all my summer gigs.

Guitar strings need to be changed often. Maybe once a month or more if you please. Bass strings, being thicker, usually hold up longer. Pending string material, brand, play style, and how often you play, bass strings can go a good few months on the norm. Most players go a year or so. Some bassist, due to needing it for their tone, change their bass strings before every live show.

Identifying the gear

He didn't have to. He saw the photo of him playing and gave us the info. If you look up that other brand of guitar, they use the same headstock design, their logo is nearly identical, and they use a variety of bridges. The luthier he mentioned liked changing pieces for each guitar.

What were some guitars you played that disappointed you?

My Carvin custom has a neck that you would love. Thin front to back and wide top to bottom.

It's this one in the BK5

I don't mind ID'ing stuff, and I wont steal your cool points.

Next time, a picture of the full guitar... not just bits... will get you a dedicated answer much sooner.

I didn't believe that people would race and try to add the newly identified items until it happened a couple of times. I'm not doing it for the points, but if I did some online digging already, I hate feeling like my time was wasted and someone else swoops in and adds the item. I recommend everyone edit the photos for just this reason.

Your Musical Evolution

I was trained in middle school band for trombone and tuba from 6th to 7th grade, but I hated it. I felt limited in what I could do. I did learn how to read sheet music for those two instruments, but I only used it the first time we played a song. I would then just remember what the order of notes were. I think if I had joined jazz band in high school, I would have been so much better off but I was not in the right head-space to take anything on then. I quickly lost the ability to read sheet music out of not using it. I still remember the fundamentals, but I can't tell you which line represents which note. I was especially offended by it when I discovered each instrument plays on a different line.
