I actually just heard of her this week in the breakroom. We were discussing how unatractive Johnny Depp's daughter is when someone mentioned Hailie Mathers. She's a solid 9

Identifying the gear

I'm hoping someone on this site will know who makes the black leather guitar strap Dan Auerbach was using on his Stephen Colbert set 5/12/2017. I've been looking for many months for one like that for a vintage acoustic that does not have a strap pin at the neck base. It looped around the peg head and through a D-ring I believe, without having to use a cord or one of those flimsy headstock button ties. It's like the old Coles straps that are no longer made. Thanks for any help!!

Identifying the gear

Looks like a Martin J-18 to me mostly. I'm wondering if the year would change the rosette.

I think the Rosette matches this photo below of a 1957 Martin D-28.

Sorry, but that does not decide your gear-nder. Only your metronomes decide how you identify.

The most important odd-ball jack on thsi dream bass would be the XLR so I can play straight into... well... anything.

I know, I was razzing you. I like the idea of the Swiss Army Knife. Whatever technology is at my fingertips, I want the option of using. The USB connection may allow for some really experimental sessions pending whats on the other end of the plug.

So you're suggesting the bass be able to transfrm into a bug? That could be doable.

Guitar build ideas

The only basses I've seen with a double jack is the Billy Sheehan Attitude series. He runs his neck pickup into an LH1000 with only bass turned up and the bridge pickup into a Hartke Kilo with only highs and mids dialed in.

Yamaha also did the USB jacks. I've not seen a bass with an XLR yet.

Guitar build ideas

I used to use Halo's builder software to build ideas, but they charge a lot. If I ever do build a total custom, besides making a replica of my Carvin, I will make certain it has a few options.

  1. Giant, exposed poles on 2, fat musicman style humbuckers with two master volumes.
  2. Active/Passive electronics
  3. Brass or stainless steal nut, bridge, and frets
  4. Cable lock
  5. Killswitch
  6. LED Fret markers
  7. Ebony or carbon fiber fretboard
  8. runs on 18v
  9. Slanted bridge to make it a 35 inch scale, but the fret spacing of a 34 inch scale
  10. Super thin, flat neck.
  11. XLR Direct Out, USB jack, and two quarter inch jacks that can be ran as one or two separate jacks.
  12. Bolt-on Neck

Guitar build ideas

Years ago I thought about having a completely custom guitar built with my income taxes. I never did, but I still have the concept designs I made in Microsoft Paint.

Favorite finishes

I prefer natural finishes, oil finishes, and lots of wood grain. I like spalted wood and some of the more extreme burls.

There is a British company making some amazing looking guitar bodies with lots of color. Ill have to find the name of it. Alpher Guitars I believe. I first heard about them on Scott's Bass Lessons in this episode.

Holy shit I own 20 guitars!

There are a bunch of states that have decided to make their community colleges free to all. I don't know how that would work at ALL, but it is happening.

Holy shit I own 20 guitars!

They are an investment if they are high end guitars. Good for if times get tough, you can sell them and put food on the table or send Lucian to college with.

I'm down to 12. Working on selling one of them. I tend to give away the ones that aren't super valuable. I'm selling my LTD Elite-1 Eclipse right now..........

New Equipboard Categorization - FAQ & Feedback

I played with it a bit. I don't think you can.

9yabout 9 years ago

OFF TOPIC

I kind of used to do that. Investing in sorts. I would purge the urge to buy things but only allow myself to buy things with high resale value. Guitars and firearms mostly. I liked the idea of having cool stuff to play with that I could turn over into quick cash if I was in a pinch. I've sold most of my guns though and given away half of my music equipment.

I think you would just have to edit categories and make no categories.

Your favorite albums released this year

I think Mastodon's greatest work was Linoleum Knife. When I first started getting into them, I went through their discography looking for more metal songs like that one and was disappointed they never actually made that kind of music.

I've been spending money like crazy, and I need to stop. I just bought a Godin classical, a lifetime warranty on wheel alignments, a $250 gift, and a Peavey Kosmos V2. The latter is supposed to be the bees knees for audio. Turns even playing a CD into a deeper experience. Supposed to turn a CD into a vinyl. People used it on bass and it rattles the whole dang house at low volumes. I know a bass player who is interested in seeing how well it works and the two of us are going to use the Kosmos on a few different systems around town to see if it's worth its weight in gold.

Favorite Instrumment You've Ever Touched?

My favorite instrument ever is my custom Carvin.

The most well-built instrument I've ever held is my Atelier Z JHJ

The most expensive instrument I've ever touched (exluding pianos and such) was a $3000 Gibson acoustic.

Pedalboard Power Supply

Pedalboard Power Supply

I was referring to pedals like the Two Notes Le Bass, EBS ValveDrive DI, Fuchs Plush Verbrator, and Friedman Motor City Drive. It's becoming trendy again to have pedals with the valves visible. It's companies' attempt to keep sales on the pedals and away from the new line of digital products like the Kemper.

Pedalboard Power Supply

I think the single pedals are trying to stay relevant by having multiple tubes in the pedal.

OFF TOPIC

Soon I will be selling some gear for anyone interested and in the Continental USA. I'm gonna sell an ESP Elite Eclipse, a Yankee Power Supply, probably a SansAmp RBI and and an RPM rack unit, an ISP Theta pedal, and maybe... maybe my Takamine GT-400. I'm considering it.

If interested, give me a holler. I was going to throw them on Craigslist Lubbock and Talkbass in a few days.

Pedalboard Power Supply

If you plan on putting them UNDER your pedalboard, you will need to make sure the dimensions are right for it. My brick was a little too tall for my pedaltrain, but then again, I think these were designed to be on top of the board.

Pedalboard Power Supply

The most powerful power supplies on the market are Yankee Power Supplies. I have a $350 model. Their flagship model is $700 but comes with every bell and whistle you can want for a power supply including LED monitoring, adjustable power, etc. They are dead quiet, built with very thick metal, and have a massive selection of jacks of all ranges of power levels at default. The only downside is that because they are made in Austria, you need to make sure you get the AC adapter for your nation. I got stuck with the European plug.
