Jones, born in London in 1954, began building his own bass guitars, amplifiers, and speaker cabinets at the age of 13. He went on to work at Vitavox Loudspeaker Co., founded Acoustic Energy — whose AE-1 near-field monitors became fixtures at Abbey Road Studios — and designed speakers for Boston Acoustics before turning his focus to bass amplification. His parent company, American Acoustic Development, serves as the corporate entity behind PJB.
