Founded by Bob Weil and launched at the January 1995 NAMM show under the name Visual Sound, Truetone is a Spring Hill, Tennessee-based manufacturer of guitar effect pedals and pedalboard power supplies. Weil, a self-taught engineer with no formal electronics background, created the company's first product — the Visual Volume pedal, which introduced an LED scale to show volume level in real time. The company's breakthrough came with the Jekyll & Hyde, widely recognized as the first dual overdrive/distortion stompbox, combining two independent gain stages in a single enclosure. Visual Sound officially rebranded as Truetone in 2015.
Truetone's pedal lineup includes the V3 Jekyll & Hyde, the Route 66 compressor/overdrive, the H2O chorus/echo, and the VS-XO dual overdrive. The company is equally well known for its 1 SPOT power supply line, which has become an industry standard for pedalboard power. The range spans from the original 1 SPOT daisy-chain adapter to the fully isolated 1 SPOT Pro series — the CS6, CS7, and CS12 — which offer multiple isolated outputs at various voltages (9V, 12V, 18V, and variable) to accommodate virtually any pedal configuration.
The company's engineering is led by R.G. Keen, a 30-year IBM veteran recognized in the boutique pedal community as "the Godfather of Boutique." Truetone pedals have been used by artists across a wide range of genres, from Aerosmith and Avenged Sevenfold to Carrie Underwood and the Arctic Monkeys.
Truetone has 19 products cataloged on Equipboard, including Effects Pedal Accessories, Overdrive Effects Pedals, and Boost Effects Pedals.
