Suggestion for First Submissions Queue
Good Idea, hope you don't mind if I link a similer topic I started:
https://equipboard.com/forums/general/topics/suggestion-on-categories
Edit: Just looked at the "Artists Needing Gear" page for the first time, I think this is a really good idea.

This is actually the kind of question I want to see more of. I'd love to hear what you plan to use this for.
I don't really have a plan for it, I've just seen where some artists do this kind of thing, like Steve Vai making a sound like a Horse with a Wah pedal or EVH making an Elephant sound with some fancy hand work:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1PdDcTCB0Ec
...but you're probably wanting a pedal that sounds more consistently like a frog.
Yeah, I'm looking for something where you get kind of a rib-it type sound from putting the pedal forward and back real quick, (assuming that it's a Wah) with one half of the sweep making the rib and the other half making the it.

Help with Hiss from a reverb pedal?
Thanks for posting this, I've been thinking about getting a Slö lately so this might be good to know.

Tip: Try posting the link in the fourms and the video will come up.

What’s the best way to show your band mates your songs?
Also, maybe play it along ("ok drums start there... ok bring in the bass here" kinda thing) or play it to them if possible.

Maybe make a "Left Handed Guitars" and "Left Handed Basses" catagory too?

Hahaha! So lemme guess, you're a Lovecraft fan and a Monty Python fan?
In all seriousness though, do you know if there's anywhere I could find something remotly like this?

Stupid Question: Has anybody ever made a Bass Wah pedal that sounds like a frog? (yes, a frog.) I know they've made pedals that when used the right way, can make sounds like Birds, Horses, Elephants etc. But is there a Bass Wah (or other effect) that makes a "Ribbit" or "Croaking" noise like a frog?

Thanks, but I was looking for more of a replica, something new.

Fender also makes a Kenny Wayne Shepherd Siganture Stratocaster that I think has a weight-releved Ash body.

I got it in my head tonight to maybe get a 5-String Bass, I never thought 5-Strings looked cool, except for this one

Does anybody know where I can get one of these now days?

I've seen this with multiple items, I don't consider it anything to be worried about. What you might do, is try to replace the Item Image if you feel necessary, as I've found that to work.

What Kind Of Strings Does Everybody Use?
Suit yourself, in that case I would recommend somthing in a 10-52 or heavier.

What Kind Of Strings Does Everybody Use?
Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinkys (12-62), they don't feel too tight in E Standard and they don't feel too floppy at C or C#.
I got a Les Paul in my lap right now with them.

Did LP Deluxes come with regular sized humbuckers?
Hey, Big update: I just took apart my Les Paul Deluxe with the full sized humbuckers, I just noticed the pickups say "DIMARZIO PICKUPS MADE IN U.S.A." on the backs. I'm starting to think the full-size humbuckers aren't stock and that somebody just routed the mini-humbucker holes bigger and put DiMarzios in, but I don't know. Either way, I'm a DiMarzio guy so good for me.
I know Guild used DiMarzios at one point or another, but did Gibson ever use DiMarzio pickups?

I know, but someone needs to delete these. I mean, what is this?:

It's the same item as the other guy aswell.

I'm not sure if you mean turn up one for sale or turn up one volume-wise so I'll just say both.
My dad bought it in the 80's or 90's, put it in storage for a while, I recently pulled it out of storage.
I also live on a ranch out in the middle of nowhere, my dad's a big rock fan, I can crank the amp up as loud as I want.

Say, while we're on the subject, does anybody know what gauge of Bass strings could handle E tuning, but not get too muddy around C or C#? I'm thinking I might try a GHS 50-115 set but I was just wondering if anyone had experince in this area.

Does anybody can help me with this?

You will of course need to re-intonate this guitar for drop C and heavier strings or higher frets will sound 'out of tune' causing unintentionally unmelodious soloing that will likely awake cthulu from his slumber.
Fellow Lovecraft fan?
5yover 5 years ago
I would probably suggest the lowest 6 strings of a 7-String kit, that ought to get you around 62-72 gauge. I personally use Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinkys 12-62 Gauge, I like them because they can handle E tuning but I can drop them down to C or C# without getting floppy.

Another thing: Have you ever tried a scalloped fretboard? Scalloping is where you carve the wood out from between the frets so that only the fret touches the strings and you're not catching any wood with your fingers. It makes vibrato and bending easier to do and when you're done scalloping you'll notice you've shave quite a lot of weight off the neck (depending on how deep your scallops are) which will also reduce neck-dive if you have any.

Just this Christmas I got some dunlop 5.0mms, they weren't so great, I need to beval the edges with some sandpaper cause it's too square, I like 'em thick not blunt.

although I will caution you not to do this when you've been drinking. As a semi-professional binge drinker Ic an tell you that up and down lose meaning long before you notice you're catching a buzz.
Hahaha, don't worry I've only been playing for about a year and a half and I'm not the best drunk player. I'm more likely to be playing drums (which I suck at) or messin' round with other crap, so no worries there.
If you have a variac or can get one cheap by all emans go for it. You are probably not going to be blown away. Also, don't you play a multichannel gain banger Carvin? Depending on the switching system starving the amp might disable switching. If it has a MIDI style DIN footswitch jack and the switch has lights that light off the amp power get ready to be stuck on one channel. Itf you use a buffered FX loop its probably going to play hell with that too.
Yeah, I'm actually surprised you remembered the Carvin, but I don't switch channels often, if I want Clean/Drive I'll usually use a pedal. I also don't have a Variac but I'm thinkin' about gettin' one, I have a 17 y.o. brother who's an electronics wiz (I mean, he built a computer for Christmas and he's using it right now) so I don't think I'll have any trouble with rigging one up.
And also I know I can't just hook up a Varic and sound just like EVH, I'd need alot more effects for that, I'm just looking for something different.

I was submitting some Basses today and was thinking we should add a couple of categories to Bass like we have on Guitar.
I was thinking about adding "Extended Range Basses" for like 5+ String Basses and "Fretless Basses" for the latter and maybe after "Electric Basses" we could add "Soildbody" and "Hollowbody" categories?
5yover 5 years ago
Clifford, if you just wanted something that your brother could plug into his MacBook and trigger sounds from Garageband, my apologies. I assumed you were looking for an instrument that could make sounds on its own, not just a USB controller.
Wait no, I was looking for somthing that could produce it's own sound.
5yover 5 years ago
I already knew not to turn it up, to check your wall voltage and that EVH's tone came from a power starved Marshall. I also think you might also need to mod/swap/change the tubes often cause it's kinda hard on the Amp's tubes, transformers, etc. but I'm not sure.

Found this video, anybody got any idea what kind of guitar Yngwie's holding in the first photo?
5yover 5 years ago
Yeah, I think I have a finish chip by one of the screw holes on my Squier Mustang HH, but I've had it for a year come Christmas and I've taken the pickguard off maybe 5 times? and even put a new pearl one on and it seems fine.

Picks... Oh my God I could make this topic last months.
I've been playing a couple years now and I'm a big user of picks but I also play with my fingers, I'm always trying to figure out what I like and I'm always looking for more, I always have about 12 different picks on me and then I have a small Altoids (type of mint) tin of random picks that I never use. Anyway, I would definatly suggest Dunlop, They're the best in the industry and they're about all I use.
Out of the picks I'm currently using these 5 are my favorites:
Dunlop Jumbo Flow 4.20 - Love these ones, my absolute favorite so far, I love the thickness and the Ultex lasts forever.
Dunlop Stubby Trinagle 3.00 - Some of the first first picks I ever used, they feel great but wear a bit too easy.
Dunlop Ultex Triangle 1.14 - Started using these about a month ago, very durable, if I use flat picks it's these.
Dunlop John Petrucci Jazz III XL - Great look & feel, I like these for small picks, they're made of Ultex so they last forever.
Dunlop Kirk Hammet Jazz III - It's a good pick it's just on the edge of being too small.

Okay, I don't think I'll be doing this for Christmas (especially not now) I might do this for his birthday though, so I might bring this back up in Springtime.

I drop-tune a lot, I have this one junk Ibanez Bass I got from a Pawn Shop, I took all the frets off it and put these super heavy Rotosounds on it 45-175, able to reach drop G or G#. I also got a Les Paul Koa that I run Ernie Ball Mammoth Slinkys on I do standard E tuning or drop C if I feel like it.
