Equipboard Improvement Ideas

(Note: I'm busy and haven't read any of the other posts above except the first one.)

I was actually just going to make a post on a similar subject.

Here's my idea: Bulk submissions. You know where you find a photo of an artists guitar collection or pedalboard or something where there's about 10+ items in the photo? Insted of submitting them seperatly, one at a time, I suggest a seperate submission category where a user makes a list of some sort and it'll submit items in bulk (excluding any items that are already on the artist's page). the user can also make a text that applies to all of the items, e.g. "here we can see ______'s pedalboard, the pedals are from left to right...", or something like that.

Feel free to criticize or suggest something on this idea, I'm always open to feedback.

Another Stupid Question

I'd just like to specifiy: I don't up-stroke exclusively, I Alternate pick when the rhythm gets too fast for up-strokes, and I switch between both frequently (as I think everyone should).

I was just wondering if downpicking (slightly) reverse one's dextarity with uppicking, but I'll be sure to look up/practice those techniques.

Thanks!

Another Stupid Question

Stupider Question:

Firstly, I'm an Uppicker so I prefer picking with mostly up-strokes. I was practicing a few weeks ago and was wondering, if I practice Downpicking will it "adapt" or "reprogram" my arm muscles and make me worse at uppicking?

Does anybody have answers or experience on this subject?

Selling one of my less played vintage guitars on reverb.

It says the Guitar has a Nitro Lacquer finish, aren't those the ones that change colour as they age?

The point of buying an expensive guitar?

Short answer:

Depends on what you think of as expensive, I consider expensive to be around $900 and up, with $500 to $800 being midrange, and $400 and down being cheap.

More expensive Guitars will (probably) have more advanced electronics, better hardware, and more exotic woodtypes, they're also (probably) built better and therefore have a better feel about them.

Gear photo updates

Meaning, by re-uploading your photos? No need to do that, it's a little bug on our end, we intend to fix it today :)

No, I mean uploading photos that are the same size, the glitch with the item photos disappearing hasn't bothered me much.

+1 to this disciplined approach.

Thank you.

Is it necessary for a musician to know the theory?

Music Theory is necessary in my opinion, I wake up every morning (6:00 or 7:00 A.M. Mon-Fri) and study/practice until Noon, due to this I've noticed great improvement in my playing, speed, and soloing.

Some of the best players studied Music Theory too. People like Randy Rhoads, Cliff Burton, Richie Blackmore, and John Petrucci.

So the way I see it: Yes, time and study is necessary, but only if you want to be a good musician.

Question On Fender/Squier Mustangs

I've been looking at a Jaguar neck so I might just buy it with the Cyclone.

Do you know anywhere you can get Mustang replacement Necks new?

Question On Fender/Squier Mustangs

Well it's a "Jag-Master" so it's half Jaguar half Jazzmaster, doesn't really have the same hardware or electronics.

And after looking this morning, I figured out that the Jaguars have a 24-inch scale aswell so I could just get a Jaguar replacement Neck (as a short scale replacment for other guitars).

Also while looking this morning I saw where the Fender/Squier Cyclones have a Mustang body but are a quarter-inch thicker, so I might try one of those.

Question On Fender/Squier Mustangs

While I am thinking about getting a Jaguar aswell, I was looking more for a Mustang body, besides I don't know where I can find Mustang replacement necks.

Though if I get a Jaguar I might put a Mustang neck on it too...

Question On Fender/Squier Mustangs

I've had a Squier Mustang for a while now, and I've been considering getting another one, the only thing I don't like about the one I got now is that the body feels pretty thin compared to most Guitars. The model I have now is a 2019 Squier Mustang HH that costed $180 New. It has a thin Basswood body that's only 34mm/1.3 inches thick and I'm looking for something around 45mm/1.7 inches like my Strat, do the higher-end Squier/Fender Mustangs have a Thicker Bodies on them?

cover bands are incompetent?

Holy shit.

5yover 5 years ago

cover bands are incompetent?

Starting as a Cover Band is fine, making an entire career off of being a Cover Band is another thing entirely.

I think what Metallica did was fine, they played a handful if cover tunes over their early-mid career (81-95), their cover album Garage Inc. may have been a bit much but it was still good.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that there's a fine line between too little and too many covers and that depends completely on if they can play them or not.

is normal that a bass guitar that is not connected has a strong buzzing of the strings?

If it is a Truss Rod problem Be Careful While Adjusting It. It's a good way to ruin your Bass.

Also: What kind of Bass is it?

Please advise an electric guitar similar in sound to the Gibson Vibrola

If your're looking for something cheap with a Vibrola Epiphone makes a '61 Standard SG Replica with one:

Question On Tremolo Systems

I'm a big fan/user of Super-Heavy Guitar Strings (around 12-60 gauge), and I was wondering, is there anyway to setup a Tremolo System (like on your typical Strat) to use such heavy strings without having the bridge rising up a ton aswell as still having the Tremolo functional?

Anybody got any suggestions or ideas?

Edit: I know detuning to put less tension on the Tremolo would work but I'm looking to play in Standard tuning.

Is it worth buying an expensive guitar?

Read everything that has been said so far, there's a lot of wisdom in these posts so try to absorb it all.

A lot has already been said that I would have said so I'm gonna to try to keep this basic:

There is a difference between Vintage intruments and Expencive instments, I've had both I would recommend new items, specificly high-end items buy cheap brands or low-end items by expencive brands (e.g. a $500 Squier would probably be as good as a $600 Fender). Personally, I would recommend a high-end Epiphone or somthing in the $600-$1100 range.

Find somthing you're comfortable with or like the shape of, if you don't like the sound you can always mess with/replace the pickups (however I wouldn't do this with a vintage instrument).

Put some money into the amps too because you'll always use your amps & effects (bands that used rally cheap guitars or smashed their guitars usually put more money into the amps to keep a good sound too).

Vinatge Les Pauls can be heavier than a Strat by a lot, a regular Strat usually weighs 6-8 pounds a Les paul can weigh 8-11 pounds or even 12 pounds like the Les Paul I got.

Don't tour with your expencive guitars! thats just what the cheap ones are for, I would recommend puting some money into your cheap guitar or getting a new one for live preformances, while roadwear can be attractive sometimes 9/10 times it's not. Insted record with your expencive guitar and preform with your cheap guitar.

Also: can we see some links for a listing if there is one?

What Picks Do You Use?

To both of you I'd personally recommend the Dunlop Flow Series picks, I'm not sure what the standard gauge packs (0.50 - 1.14) feel like as I haven't tried them yet, however I've gained quite a likeing for the 2.5 and 4.20 gauges as they're about all I use now.

I say give 'em a try, see if you like 'em.

Where Can I Buy These?

Actually, I don't like 5-String Basses (I always just thought it was for people too lazy to drop to B) however I have been thinking of getting one, so why not get the first one ever made?

The only other things I really like about it is that they're odd and that nobody ever used them.
