seeking a Strat, only lighter

So I've basically upgraded everything except for the electronics at this point.

I would also like to suggest somthing I posted on another forum topic:

Another idea I've had in my head is to modify a Strat with these Stacked Potentiometers. Basicly it's two pots stacked on top of each other and its got these split knobs so you could have a Volume and a Tone on top of each other, so you take three of these pots, do a bit of fancy wireing and then you have a Volume and Tone for each Pickup, add a 5-Way selecter switch and you have basicly the ultimate control Strat.

I got the idea from the new Paranormal Jazz Basses Squier relesed this year as it has the same kind of pots (look at it from a side angle).

I would suggest something made of Basswood, I belive it's one of the lightest Body woods, maybe route out under the pickguard as eyeseeofficial suggested. Squier has one model called the Cyclone, it's basicly a Mustang body with Strat pickups and Jaguar switches, I know its not a Strat, but to my experince with Mustangs they have a thin, lightweight body. This guitar has the Strat pickups with a thin body and a tremolo which would relive more weight so... something to think of I guess.

Help Finding Bass Information.

I found a 1984 Guild "price update" listing the instruments. It seems to have been part of a "Crossroad" series. Here is a Let's Talk Guild forum covering the line, with brochure images.

I also found a couple of listings for the CE. They don't talk about the instrument's history, but they so say a bit about the components.

Crazy Questions On Effects

Also has anyone ever heard of a "Variac"? (hope I spelled that right) It's this thing that lets you adapt power to higher or lower wattages.

I know Van Halen used one on I think a 150-Watt Marshall Head and turned it down to 89 Watts to get his tone.

Anyway I was just wondering if anybody has any experince with these things.

Crazy Questions On Effects

Good God, it's been 21 days sence I was last on here... Anyway:

I stack delays all the time. I also stack phase and chorus all the time. Course I do weird, ambient, proggy sounding doom shit, so I may not be your best reference point.

I'd like to hear something like this, are there any artists who play this style or is there something I could look up that sounds like this?

Questions On Keyboard Prices

It's basicly a hobby, he has no interist in a musical career or bands, he might move it around the house, he dosn't take music classes and we do have an old piano and a Hammond electric organ around the house.

Edit: Also looking for somthing I can find on the Sweetwater website if possible.

What if an artist uses a certain piece of gear but doesnt own it.

I think borrowed gear does count if it was used, for instance Cliff Burton was photographed playing Kirk Hammet's Black Flying V, Cliff never did any Guitar recordings with Metallica so I guess that doesn't count. However in the case of Rush, Alex Lifeson used a borrowed/rented Fender Strat which he used to record one of Rush's albums (I'm not sure which but I think it was Permanent Waves or Moving Pictures and I think he bought the Guitar after the album sold) sure he didn't own the Guitar, but thats whats making the sound on the record, so if I was trying to get the same tone as the album I'd want to know what he used. So basicly Studio & Live recordings with borrowed gear, that gear would count in my mind.

Also: Do you think we should make a "Borrowed Gear/Rented Gear" section on artist pages? Maybe linkable to other artists?

Crazy Questions On Effects

I was talking about in series, analog Choruses, tube-driven amp and what I think is a analog Octave and Delay.

Basicly the exact gear I had in mind was a Carvin V3 100 watt amp w/ 4-Ohm 15 in speaker, EHX Small Clone, Walrus Audio Julia and MXR M234 Choruses, Boss DD-8 Digital delay and Boss OC-3 Octave/Drive.

Crazy Questions On Effects

I was looking at Octave Pedals today and I had a thought: What happens when you rig two Octave pedals in line next to each other? Does it take an Octave higher/lower note and take it yet another Octave up/down?

And also, Chorus Pedals. Does putting two in line next to each other make the Chorus twice as deep? Does it make it too muddy?

And same thing for Delay, if you take 2-3 Delay Pedals and rig them in line does it replicate the note three or four times?

I'm mostly asking these questions because I'm curious, can't find any videos about these things on youtube and God knows I don't have the money to buy all these pedals.

Maybe post some of your effect questions/ideas below.

Yeah, but those are like $3000 Guitars aren't they?

And also, I don't like Ernie Ball Music Man. I think their products are way overpriced, except maybe the Petrucci models with the advanced Tonewoods, Electronics, Ergonomics, Finishes, etc. PRS I'm not into but they're okay.

Charvel Pro-Mod So-Cal Style 1 HH Fr $900, Deep Purple Metallic finish looks awesome, Seymour Duncan pickups, Floyd Rose tremolo.

Best amp for $800-$1300

Well, I realize this is like right at $2500 but what about a Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier? It's 150 Watts, Tube-Driven, 3-Channel and has five output jacks (Two 4-Ohms, Two 8-Ohms and One 16-Ohm) so you can power multiple Cabinets with different Ohm-Ranges at the same time.

What Kind Of Strings Does Everybody Use?

I was thinking tonight, what's the best lesser-known brand of strings? I'm thinking about ditching Ernie Ball, Rotosound, D'Addario, etc. for some smaller brand like Picato, D'Aquisto, La Bella, etc. and was wondering if anyone could suggest anything.

I was also wondering what kind of strings does everybody else use? I'd like you to leave a reply below saying what kind of strings you use with some info about the strings e.g. brand, model, gauges, metal-type, etc.

Help Finding Bass Information.

I've had this old Guild Bass laying around for about a year now, I pulled it out of my dad's collection and never paid much attention to it.

Just tonight I tried looking it up to find it and found this:

http://www.guildsofgrot.com/images/full_size/Sets/guitar_bass/Crossroads.JPG

The Website identifys this as a "FS-46 Bass" (Right) a Bass version of the FS-46 CE Guitar (Left), these were very weird Basses, I assume they have a Piezo Pickup under the Bridge, Single Volume and Tone knobs on the Sholder, a Straight-4 Headstock (which I didn't know came with many Guilds) a darker Back wood and a lighter Top wood (on my model) and weirdest of all a Soundhole on a Solidbody.

I was only able to find this image and no others, I would like to ask any of you if you could find any info on these Basses, or if you have info could you pass it on to me.

I know what the Bass is, I now want to know how many where made? when were they made? were these just prototypes? etc.

I Greatly thank anybody in advance who can pass on any info.

Did LP Deluxes come with regular sized humbuckers?

Got the Serial Number, back of the Headstock reads: 70099009 along with the standard Made In U.S.A.

Also: Another few odd features I forgot to mention were that it's got a Brass Nut and looks like Bridge Saddles too, a Heel at the back of the Headstock and no binding on the back.

Did LP Deluxes come with regular sized humbuckers?

It looks like a one piece Body & Top, at least from what I can tell from the outside, I'll look up the Serial Number tomorrow if I remember. I'm working with my Amp room and a project guitar of mine so I may or may not remember.

Best strat pickups

Well, I'd have to say DiMarzio, I'm a DiMarzio guy and so were many good artists like Steve Vai, Phil Collen, Joe Satriani, Kiko Loureiro and Yngwie Malmsteen. They were all Single Coil/Single-Humbucker guys so if you like any of their sounds you might like DiMarzios.

Also, a cool idea I've had for a while is to have a Bass-heavy pickup in the neck, a Mid-heavy pickup in the middle and a Treble-heavy pickup in the Bridge to get the full range (this would work best with a 5-way selecter switch).

Did LP Deluxes come with regular sized humbuckers?

I don't know, I'm not even Left-Handed, I just use it for practice. I don't think there's anything special about it aside from it being Leftie, and apparently the fact that it's got Regular-Sized Humbuckers.

Edit: it also looks to have a 3-Piece Neck.

Did LP Deluxes come with regular sized humbuckers?

They did come with Regular Humbuckers, I have a Sunburst Les Paul Deluxe Leftie from the 70's with Cream Coloured Humbuckers.

Edit: And when you look up "Les Paul Deluxe" in google you do get a LOT of images of the Mini-Humbucker ones.

Best amp for $800-$1300

Best Amp I can suggest is my personal favorite of the Carvin V3 Amp Head.

It's got 3-Channels, one Clean, two Drive, so you can get about any sound you want out of it, it's Tube Driven, can be set for 4, 8 or 16 Ohms and can feed two Cabinets. The manufacturer's page has more info on it than I can remember.

I'm not sure if they're still making these Amps but I found this listing on Reverb for $800, says it's Mint Condition and it is in your price range however this one is pretty expensive as I've seen other listings for $400 - $600.

Help With Active Basses

This month I've gotten two Active Basses, (One new and one from a local Pawn Shop.) and I've been having this problem where the Basses barely work when I plug them into my main Amp. To make things weirder, the Basses work perfectly fine with my CRATE Speaker (8in Combo-Amp with no effects), I know these Basses work because of the before mentioned CRATE and the fact that my one Bass has a Push/Pull Active/Passive Knob and it will work when I make it Passive.

I was thinking the problem might be in my setup but I'm not sure where, so I'd like to ask for some help with this. Here's a list of my current equipment:

Basses: Schecter Stiletto Stage-4 (New), Ibanez BTB (Pawn Shop).

Amp: Carvin V3 Tube Amp (3-Channel, Running Both Amps, Set To 4 Ohm).

Cabinets: Peavey 1x15 Speaker, Fender 1x18 P.A. Speaker (Exact Models Unknown, both 4 Ohm).

Effects: EHX Green Russian Overdrive, EHX Small Clone Chorus, Ibanez Weeping Demon Wah-Wah (Powered By Plugin Chain).

I'm not sure where the problem here would be, I suspect around the Effects area, however I don't know.
