I'm using good ole Fender Mediums. I've tried Dunlop 1.14 and Dunlop .73 and wasn't really a fan of either.
Tried the .88s yet?

Well, I have two drive pedals on my board, a DS-1 and an EHX Green Russian, I find the DS-1 is louder than the GR with the Volume knobs maxed, so I just adjusted the volume knobs to lower the DS-1 to the GR's output level, made my Chorus pedals a but louder too with Distortion. Best I can suggest is just mess with the Volume/Tone controls on all the other pedals.

I'm not saying we would lock the artist being submitted to, just locking certin items on their page (e.g. Kurt Cobain's '65 Jaguar) one could still submit new gear to the page, they would just have to request to edit certin items.

Pinch Harmonics wern't exactly what I had in mind, and I don't even want to start asking about pickups yet... I do however belive the string gauge is relevent, I was playing my Tele the other day (unplugged) strung with the Dunlop Rev. Willie Guitar strings (7-38s) and noticed the harmonic response was terrible, I figured it was either the metal type (Nickel I think) or the way I play (I usually use around 13-56s). Aswell when I think of it, it seems like thicker strings would have more material to create the harmonic, and the higher string tension would create more sustain, I don't know though... I do agree with your idea though, I do belive Cobalt or M-Steel would probably respond better.

I'm getting tired of seeing submission pages like these:
https://equipboard.com/pros/kurt-cobain/fender-kurt-cobain-road-worn-jaguar-electric-guitar
https://equipboard.com/pros/kurt-cobain/fernandes-stratocaster-hss
https://equipboard.com/pros/kurt-cobain/gibson-sg-standard-electric-guitar
https://equipboard.com/pros/cliff-burton/gibson-flying-v-electric-guitar
If you will look through the Comments/Edit History of pages such as these, what you'll see is a large amount of argueing, bickering, and useless edits & posts chanting 'I think i'm right therefore i am', all this while ignoreing the hard facts & source evidence, aswell as the standard rules of the site. These aren't nearly isolated incidents, so what I propose is that we make "Lockable Submissions" or "Privilaged Edit Submissions" were only profiles with say around 5000 GearIQ (note: exceeding my current GearIQ), can edit or rate them, much in the same way Wikipedia has some pages that can be edited by the general public, and other pages that are locked to such people with the only way to edit them being that you must ask a higher official to edit something in if they feel it is fit to do so. The reason why I'm making this proposal is because I'm tired of these profiles with their GearIQ in the double-digits basicly wipeing a professional, factual submission just because they heard some rumour that they belive is true. I'm not proposing we lock all submissions just the ones that are either highly popular/in no more need of improvement/or have been highly abused.
I hope you will consider my proposal, thank you.

I was just looking at Ernie Ball's website and started wondering: What are the most optimal kinds of Guitar strings for Harmonics?
When I say this I have two specific things in mind:
What's the best metal type or output level? (e.g. Nickel, Steel, Cobalt, etc.)
What string gauge/tension is better? lighter/looser or heavier/stiffer?

Doesn't the system add genre tags in the order you select them?
Well think, the same thing could be said about gear pages...

My eyes still havn't healed from the last time I looked at this topic...

Just a small thought on this subject: I think we should make the roles & genres reorderable, similar to items on our Equipboard pages.

I recently made the switch from ultex to Ernie Ball prodigies. The Delrin material feels good, and the beveled edge is pretty nice too.
I always found that Derlin picks wore too easily, however I've only had experience with Dunlop Derlin 500 Primegrips (1.5 & 2.0s) so I'm not quite versed enough in that area. If you want more grip I would recommend the 1.5s, the 2.0s strangly don't have as much grip to them...
Overall I would recommend you stick with Ultex, I've found it more durable than anything else.

Questions on Squier/Fender IV Basses
I've also been wondering, is the base-width of the neck wider like a Bass, or thinner like standard Guitar? And if it's more like standard Guitar neck width, could you put the neck on a different body?

Question on Floyd Rose Temolo Systems
I've been looking lately for a 6-Screw Floyd Rose trem that will mount on my Squier Strat, after looking for a while I noticed that most Floyds have 2-point mounts insted of 6-screw mounts.
So I'm wondering, do they even make 6-screw Floyds?
Edit: I'm not looking specificly for a Floyd Rose and will settle for a cheap FR copy, just as long as it's 6-screw.

Questions on Squier/Fender IV Basses
I've been wondering lately, is there any difference between the hardware & electronics on a Fender VI Bass and a reguler model Guitar such as a Jaguar?
I'm specificly wondering are the bridge, tremolo, trem springs, and tuners built any different to account for heavier string gauge/tension? And lastly, are the three single coils specificly voiced for Bass, or are they just regular Guitar pickups?
And just on a side note: Do VI Basses play more like 6-Basses or Baritone Guitars? because I belive they take about 24-84 gauge strings which I think could go for either Bass or Baritone.

30 to 40 inch scale 6 string guitar
I get the feeling this doesn't help much, but Sweetwater does sell Baritone Stratocaster and Telecaster replacment necks (27 In Scale, Maple Fretboard, 22 Fret) I thought of it because you mentioned the Baritone Jazzmaster and I'm not sure if it helps if you decide to try and make a custom Baritone yourself.
And on a side note: I personally think you're insane to try 4 Octaves down, but I absolutely love it!

Ultra-Heavy Gauge 6-string strings
I've never seen a 200 gauge string, I do know however that Rotosound makes a 85-175 4-String set for Drop Bass. Maybe add some light strings like from a 30-85 4-String set, or if you're looking for something lighter they do make Six Bass sets with more conventional string gauges like 35-130 and 30-125.

This doesn't really improve the site, but it would be cool to add a "joined on" date to user profiles.

How did that happen?

Here's a link to the Humbucker section on DiMarzio's website.
DiMarzio also made signature pickups for John Petrucci, Steve Morse, Nita Strauss, Joe Satriani, and Paul Gilbert if you're into any of those artists.
5yover 5 years ago
I'm just gonna to ask a few questions to kinda get a feel for what kind of sound you want:
Single-Coil or Humbucker?
What specific genre of metal are you playing?
What band sounds closest to the sound your looking for?
Any preferred brands?
And is this exclusively a metal guitar or do you play other genres?

Okay, finally getting to the SRV thing, I found that he used 13-60 and later 11-58 gauge strings, can you give me a link to an article or video to this in formation?

I've heard good things about Alverez, I hear they play real fast kinda like a Les Paul.
5yover 5 years ago
Yeah, I just taught myself to play with up-strokes, I never knew that downpicking was more conventional otherwise I my have done it in the first place. I don't think there's any disadvantage to uppicking it might be harder to strum but I usually strum down anyway.

The point of buying an expensive guitar?
Yeah, I try to avoid talking about that stuff to, kinda unusual for me to comment something like that.
5yover 5 years ago
Sometimes I even use a Jazz III XL it is a really rigid pick and offers a good tone - I would not recommend this one for strumming.
Might I recommend you try the John Petrucci Jazz III XL? I think they're similer but a bit more durable.

My advice would be to buy an Acoustic around the $700-$750 range (I belive that would be around £500 in your currency), I belive you shouldn't cheap out on Acoustics because you can buy a $180 Electric and plug it into a good Amp+Effects setup and make it sound great, while with an Acoustic, you can't alter the sound mutch, what you have is what you got. So I would recommend buying a nice Acoustic with good tonewoods (there are no bad tonewoods really, it just depends what you're looking for).
I might just leave a link to a tonewood guide so you can get a good idea of things to look for.

I'm Scottish. There's nothing political about two pence. There's no typo. Pence is subdivision of the pound, similar to how you yanks have a penny as the subdivision of your dollar. I mean, if you want to make it political, you do you. I'll have no part of it.
Sorry I didn't know, I'm from the U.S. and we have a former leader by the last name of Pence, that's what I was joking about, I also thought you had misspelled cents (which again, is a U.S. thing.) My apologies.

i have a paf pro in the bridge position of my rg321 its a really nice pickup
Why not go with another set of those? or are you looking for a different PAF sound?
Also: On the subject of suggesting pickups, does anybody know where I could find some CuNiFe Wide Range Style Pickups (like they used in the 70's Teles) for an affordable price?
I've seen where Fender sells them individually for $200 or $400 for a set, what I'm looking for is around a $200 set.
5yover 5 years ago
Another idea I've had this other idea floating around too, do you think we should we add "Youtuber/Podcaster" as an artist roll?
5yover 5 years ago
DiMarzio actually has a number of PAF Replicas and I belive a reasonable number of artists actually used them.
Here's what I could find for DiMarzio's PAFs:
(While these links are all bridge pickups they do make neck pickups too.)
Of the five I would probably suggest the 36th Anniversary PAF.
Also on the subject of SGs, are the Basses (EB-0, EB-3, and SG Bass) very thin body-wise? I've seen they're at least pretty heavy.
