Daedelus' Gear
At 3:57 Daedelus starts talking about how he incorporates MLR with his Monome.
While Alfred's is orange, this can be seen at 10:52
In this Resident Advisor Machine Love feature, Daedelus discusses the Monome 256 Grid and his career with it, saying:
"In 2003 I booked a random gig in San Diego, and I saw a young Brian Crabtree and Peter Segerstrom performing at a college with a prototype of the Monome. It's amazing what a single night can do, what a random gig can be. That changed my life, period. Not only was it this, like, incredible moment where I saw that it was able to manipulate samples in a way that I only had dreamed of; I also made a personal connection with Brian, and in essence became a prototype tester for the Monome to go forward. That was 2003. We can go all the way to 2013 now, ten years later, and the machine is still pretty much the same form factor. "

In a recent Instagram post, Daedelus shared a fragment of a minimal modular performance, showcasing the use of the 16n Faderbank. This versatile DIY controller, part of an open-source project, expands on earlier designs by Brian Crabtree of Monome. It features enhanced functionality with USB MIDI, CV, and i2c outputs, making it a valuable tool for electronic music exploration.
At around 3:21, Daedelus explains how, "So many ideas have come from one machine", and "How this is the revolving point of many genres". He then makes a hip-hop beat and transitions into a house beat with just the instrument.
"His main piece was a Yamaha A-3000 sampler, but he quickly grew tired of the limitations it presented. 'I only had ten fingers and at most they could change one or two parameters at a time. It felt really slow.'"
Daedelus showcases his continued use of Monome gear with the Monome Arc 4 (walnut) in a recent Instagram post. This piece, likely acquired second-hand due to its legacy status and discontinuation nearly a decade ago, is featured in his latest set focused on DJ Deeon's "No Justice No Peace."
Starting at the beginning of this video, Daedelus can be seen using a Monome controller.
