Danny Federici's Gear
His "rampaging" Hammond organ solo provided the climax to Kitty's Back in 1975.
In this picture (slightly cut off), an Alesis QS6 synth is place on top of Danny Federici's Hammond organ.
A pair of Leslie speakers were used for all the organs, and were customized with “12 2" speakers, Gauss HF 4000 horn drivers and IF 15" speakers, and speed relays”.
Danny Federici is associated with using the Roland A-70 as a MIDI controller for off-stage samplers, as noted on Tumblr.
Forgoing having to mic a traditional Leslie cabinet, the organ sound was run straight through the RT-20. This would also give Danny more control over the “speaker” sound.
Danny Federici used the Electro-Harmonix Holy Grail reverb pedal with his B3 organ, likely in conjunction with the RT-20, as noted on Tumblr.
Ran Farfisa and Ace-Tone organ samples created by his tech, Marty Gelhaar. One main and two spares.
Ran with “’Keyboards of the ‘60s and ‘70s” expansion board for Vox and more Farfisa sounds. One main and one spare.
Danny Federici uses the Behringer Eurorack Pro RX1602 rackmount mixer to consolidate multiple keyboard sources into a single audio output, as detailed on Tumblr.
MIDI patcher used to control route the QS6 and QS7.1 to all of the rack-mount samplers.
In this photo, Federici can be seen with a Jenco Celeste with the E Street Band in 1978. He toured with the instrument throughout the ‘70s and ‘80s, famously playing it on the song “Born to Run.”
