Guitars of future past!

My Laney is surprisingly low gain, actually. Maybe I need to play it louder, and kill my neighbours. Lots of the time in the places I play I don't actually use my amp, I use whatever they have, at the place where my band rehearse they've got some nice Fender combos, and at school, I use the valvestate. I only use my amp at Church, or for home playing. In terms of gear it depends what is being played. Fair enough if I was just doing a straight up rock gig, I'd take a comp, or EQ, overdrive, distortion, and delay. It all depends on what you play, and personally my band plays I guess proggy indie, so I use various effects.

Guitars of future past!

The plan is to get the mod pedal, the OD, and the dist, then save up £500ish, or as much as I can until Christmas, and combine forces, with my annoyingly big family. My band are due to play a fairly big gig in the local O2, as part of this concert with up, and coming bands, and I'm not doing it, with a shitty behringer OD, and a chorus that's more exercise to turn on than it is to walk up Everest. My muff is good, but I use it as a fuzz, so I'm looking at the tone city wildfire, or Movall scorpion. And while I'm at it maybe something to reign in the P90s, a friend is going to give me his joyo dyna comp, but apparently it's a pile of utter crap, and doesn't do anything. I'm sitting here listening to the Mogwai live in Roskilde concert. It's amazing, I feel so mortal.

Guitars of future past!

I've said before on the forums, that I'd like to get a guitar, with humbuckers, and a trem, though one not specifically aimed at metal. I've admitted to myself that I'm gonna have to save a fair bit, so I'm thinking musicman sterling JP model, JP70, or JP50. I really love the possibilities of a 7 string, and not just for metal, it's great for jazz, and proggy post rock. I also love Ibanez S series guitars, though they cost a bit more, for a good one.

Yeah it doesn't sound too difficult, I just can't be arsed to tune down to c or whatever it's in, it takes too long, is unstable, and is just a faff.

I just posted that. Some are well made, and others...

They are a great band, toxicity is one of my favourite albums, it's a lyrical, and musical piece of genius. I love the way they can shift from one mood to another, in such a subtle way.

Do you have any pictures of that pinecaster it sounds really interesting?

That sounds like a gio. Don't go there, don't even go there. Gio are the lowest of the Ibanez low, I nearly bought one, and I'm glad I didn't. It was back when it seem like pointy, sharp bits were all that mattered, and anything in a cool, colour, with a trem would do. Instead I came to my senses, and bought the jazzmaster.

It was a really great tool, with a surprisingly sweet sound. It's a great idea that in a gigging situation where you can't have thirty guitars, you can have them all in one, and as the one I borrowed for a few months was pretty much from the first run they can only have got better. I think they've got drop tuning tech in them now as well. There's a tonne of options, they're cool guitars, for the idea, price, and VFM, though I'd personally just have a few analog guitars.

My Guitar Pedals-which ones are keepers and which ones should I ditch?

The fuzz factory is good, but a bit of a one trick pony, I built a diy version. Jim was born in 1980, so he's a bit excited.

They are one of the very best post rock bands around. Maybeshewill, Mogwai, Russian Circles, and this will destroy you, are my favourites.

Yeah tool, are probably my second favourite prog band, only to Floyd. I also love Porcupine Tree, they're my third

10yover 10 years ago

pedal guys, have you seen BYOC's programmable looper?

Is there any other soloution to the tap dance thing, as my band could potentially be part of quite a big show, and I don't want to f up, but can't afford a looper.

Dream theater are good, I've listened to them a bit, but I much prefer the periphery djenty heavier side of prog metal.

What sound are you looking for? Just looking at it ditch the BOSS OD, they're usually horrible, and the behringer maybe, for a clip on, and downsize the holy grail, if you can, then put your son of hyde on your board.

NAMM 2016!!!

I wish we were taught about American geography here, instead of hours of crap about rocks, and clouds. It's actually very interesting.

Your Favorite Non Documentary Musical Movies

I thought it could have been a bit creepy you saying that that 12 year old bassist is cute is you're like 50 or something.

I've been listening to a lot more prog metal recently, in particular Periphery, and AAL, are my favourites, though I really like other Djenty (Ah, I cringe) stuff, with weird rhythms, and odd time signatures. Can you recommend me some music in this style.

Amps :D

What is your range. I would seriously recommend Laney, if you're after a combo, there more upmarket stuff is quite good. It's not quite an AC30HW, but it's not bad.

Your Favorite Non Documentary Musical Movies

Spinal Tap, all the way. It's hilarious, it's spawned so many pop culture things, memes I guess, for goodness sake it started turn it up to 11, the most overused, and cringeworthy guitar quote of all time! It's a timeless classic. I can't even make my mind up, what the best bit is! The really funny bit is that whenever me, and my Dad watch it, my Mum can't bring herself to enter the room, so she'll go, and watch notting hill 400 more times.

NAMM 2016!!!

A, I would love to go to NAMM, it sounds amazing B, I thought Disneyland was in Florida C, Not all the online stuff is terrible, it depends who you watch. The Andertons crowd do some good stuff there, and if Glenn from SSS is there then he'll do some good stuff. D, Distance is so much different for you Americans. What do you mean Nashville is not far, it's bloody 12 hours. That would get you all the way across Britain,North to South. E, I don't usually like Line 6 products, but the Helix looks quite nice, though I'm really not in with the whole big, expensive, digital, processor crowd, I much prefer pedals, and a tube amp, though I am very impressed with the Kemper, as it really does the real deal of emulation (You can do pretty much everything, you can change the size and shape of the tubes your emulating, etc), though it's never 100 percent like the real thing. I don't really like the axe fx. Just watch Glenn's vids on them, he does really good comparisons.

NAMM 2016!!!

It's nearly here! I can't wait, to binge watch everything on YT, and hang around being antisocial checking updates. At the moment I am hyped up for the Ibanez mini pedals, and the virtual Jeff vibrato. I wish I lived in Anahiem.

How to get this sound electronic edition

Can anybody help me with that metallic scratchy sound in Adamski feat. Seal, Killer, at the solitary brother bit. Sorry I can't add a link, as once again I'm in school, and if it's a website then its banned.

If any of you read Total Guitar, in the feedback section they published my letter! My name is Josiah Luck, and I wrote an article about deep cuts.

John Petrucci - He's Going To Kill You

I guess not straight stuff. Weird signatures, and rhythms that don't 100 percent make sense.

10yover 10 years ago

pedal guys, have you seen BYOC's programmable looper?

Is there no programmable looper you can buy for a cheaper price, because I don't want to run the risk of building it, and wasting 200 if it doesn't work. Once I'm happy with my whats on my board I need to get something like that, because I never took ballet lessons as a kid.

10yover 10 years ago

pedal guys, have you seen BYOC's programmable looper?

There is a lot of Asian crap gear, but actuallt JOYO is a decent company, for the price.

R.I.P Alan Rickman

Dmn, would people start thinking about others for once, all this dying is so selfish. He's probably my favourite actor, and his voice is just amazing.

I pity you, oh so much. How can you have a son that can recognise an AC30, yet still watches that hell.

Did Dream Theater do that, or am I missing something? Have you watched the clips yet?
