Which Stratocaster is the Best?
i just feel like vox mids are magic all their own. they need 0 kind of boost to be magical... all that swirl O.O

Which Stratocaster is the Best?
lol, it's true. ive been really having fun experimenting with tone, and it's helped me get to a super creative point, but then i realized all my best writing is doneon an acoustic anyway

Which Stratocaster is the Best?
valid, guess that's me comng from a place of higher gain music. every guitsar player i know uses the ts as a clean boost to tighten up, and they all pretend like it's their little secret.

Which Stratocaster is the Best?
valid. i guess it makes sense for other applications tho-- takes away the need for a TS of you use it right into a silverface fender, can probably get some sick garage tones

Which Stratocaster is the Best?
hmm ive never seen the vaughn strat, i'll keep an eye out. personally i like all the sounds of clapton's mid boost.

Which Stratocaster is the Best?

Which Stratocaster is the Best?
they're not Ibanez small, and they're alright. i think they're nice and comfy but i'm not planning on buying one.

I tend to play with a Hendrix grip, so I love the C-shape neck. A nice U shape is also good, but I was never a huge fan of the V shape. I'm one to grab a nice, moderately chunky neck and call it a day. I think the current mainline American model (Pro? I don;'t even know anymore) is one of my favorite strats in a long time but the Players feel heckin' nice too.
Pickup-wise: there isn't a Fender Strat pickup that truly blows. There just isn't.

I don't know of too many dual channel bass amps. Could always just use the gain knob?

the king is dead.... the king of the surf guitar
i fucking wish I'd gotten to see him live. true fucking innovator and his amp designs are some of the greatest fenders. \m/

I really like it for analog delay sounds. Not the trippiest delay, and certainly very different from digital delays, but it serves its purpose.

Shit, I won't spill your secret sauce, but I will certainly have to try it out. Funny you mention Klons, I tried one for this type of metal type thing and didn't think it really worked, at least not for the style. That's just me tho :) I love my klone to death,
In terms of tone coloring? Fuck me up. Colored tone is just tasty tone that you can turn off haha. Lol at your last sentence.

interesting. that's another route OP could go too instead of active pikups i guess, with the tubescreamer.
7yover 7 years ago
Yeah. I helped a guy with a "generic 2000s metalcore" tone and he said as soon as he got his hands on a 6505 it was just Correct. Not sure there's too much other magic about it, or a specific amp setting. Also, active pickups tend to sound sharper and better with that level of gain.

Feature Idea: Tracking Value and/or MSRP
only when discussing vintage or historic instruments. like your ac30-- not exactly representative of the average ac30 or even any other '62 ac30, since i imagine yours is pristine. i think an msrp tracker just wouldn't make sense here, because this isn't reverb and you can't buy or trade stuff through here. this is more of an index and we already link to amazon so it doesnt make sense, but the value of a 2018 ac30 is very easily tracked haha

yeah. It doesn't have the deucetone switch which kinda sucks but the Mouse itself is out of stock so it may not be a bad shout.
7yover 7 years ago
you know what, not a bad idea at all. I'll look into it, should be a fun project.

Will do about the flux. And yeah, learning wiring was the best thing for me-- saved me so much money in tech expenses.
7yover 7 years ago
Great idea. I'm definitely going to pull this move, though more than likely I'm scoring my gear off Reverb. My GC never has any interesting pedals-- it's literally a wall of used TS9s and the occasional DS-1, haha. I can handle a little soldering, and I've been trying to get better at it recently, as I'm working up to building my first bass.
7yover 7 years ago
Sweet. I think it's a Deucetone for me, though if I can find an LM308 for cheap (shouldn't be too hard) then I'm springing, if only for the reputation. Thanks for the advice as usual
7yover 7 years ago
they're weird, they've got 3 different sounds you can switch between on either side. There's even a "clean" one to get that dirty filtered OD
7yover 7 years ago
I liked the Deucetone one on bass a lot-- more modern and a couple different circuits inside it. Sounds killer and lets you stack two rats on top of each other.
Interesting about the 308, it makes a lot of sense due to the kind of gain you get out of it. Agreed about Rats as od/boost, I think they sound fantastic. Especially that 1981 pedal that's just a Rat clone... really doesn't do the buzzsaw-y gain I think of but nails that smooth low-breakup RAT sound
7yover 7 years ago
I've been eyeing a flat-box LM308 chip RAT from the '90s, but I've also had my eye on the turbo RAT. I've also seen a couple "You Dirty RAT"s floating around, and I've heard they're all a bit different. SO what's your favorite EB? I quite like that LM308 distortion, I think the clipping is magical and sounds like nothing else.
7yover 7 years ago
Very much a fan of Klons, and the BD-2 as a mid-gain distortion. often I find the DS-1 to be too aggressive, so I use a BD-2 instead and dingdingding! that's the sound, baby. I also really dig TS-9s, though i've never owned one. They sound absolutely killer when used as a mid boost, but I once met this guy who ran his just completely dimed (except tone, he kept that knob at like 12). Nutjob, that guy was, but it sounded good.

Mick Thomson Pro Series Soloist
Well for starters, it's a Jackson, and I find their necks to possibly be the least likable guitar necks I've ever played, but it's really about your feel. You should obviously try one out before yoy buy it-- i recommend going into a guitar store and pickuing up the most metal-looking ibanez or Jackson you can find. You'll get a sense of what you're getting.

Demo of the amp I designed and built.
It turned out GREAT. You're right, I won't be able to afford this for a while, but goddamn. Sounds awesome man, best of luck

That is some super clever design. Makes the amp really versatile... you're tempting me and I just bought an amp last week :P

I think a 1 channel version would kick ass, since the breakup on this amp is so fucking crisp. I'd be willing to make that compromise :P
