Paying Walrus levels of money for a boost seems silly unless it's special in some way

Damn. I want to run some mics through the aux input of my amp but I can't find an adapter from an instrument cable to a 3.5mm jack.
7yover 7 years ago
How hard do you think it would be to resolder the aux input to the Phones jack and vice versa?

Hmm, maybe. I dunno. I'll do some reflecting, y'all have been super helpful

I like my TV Jones pups in Teles. That is a motherfucking killer sound. I'll definitely look into the mini-buckers, but I'm not sure at all about the filtertrons.

Best Guitar Combination on Two Guitarist Band
Best combination with a Dot is... another guitar? I dunno, the reality is amps matter way more
7yover 7 years ago
You already know that I'd love a mini-bucker SG, but mine only has a half pickguard so the routings would be all gross. ;P That said, I'll look into those pups
7yover 7 years ago
Hahaha, he probably can't. I'll definitely be shooting you some demos.
7yover 7 years ago
Will do, thanks! We're recording right now in a cheap studio, so if I don't like the job of our producer, I'll email you the demos.

Hmm, okay. If I put 500k in them, think it would sound good? I've next to no experience with pot values and how they affect my sound.
7yover 7 years ago
What about the bass? What would you recommend for the p-bass and j-bass pickups? I think it's got 250k or 350k pots
7yover 7 years ago
Will do. I think mine are 250k right now so that might not be a bad idea to do.

Sweet, awesome. I'll totally contact him, I'm sure he can help me find my tone! In terms of the bass pickups, I have an indonesian Squier VM and I just want some p-bass pickups with tight low end. The bass on mine is way too loose-feeling for me.

Thanks for the solid advice Jim, excellent as always. The internet is proving you very right on the pricing haha.
Any shots at my bonus question?
7yover 7 years ago
Awesome. I'm really going for a tight mid response, so those sound great... I'll do some sniffing. I might also look into a PAF, but I'm not as sure. Definitely going to enjoy that '70s sound with my new fuzz that's for sure!

Looking for some pickups to plop in my Epiphone SG, as an excuse to gut the whole guitar and put in some new electronics. I like the stock pickups, the 700T is a good humbucker that has a nice beefy sound. I'm looking for something a little warmer and more responsive in the neck, and something a teensy bit darker and warmer in the bridge. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Bonus points if you suggest some fat and mean Pbass pickups.

Boss BD-2. Got some great, wet, thick tones for driven pop-punk (my preferred genre). Also does blues OD (duh) and almost fuzzy all-out ear assault. Another pedal I'm absolutely in love with is a weird one-- the Danelectro Cash Cow OD. I tried it in a Guitar Center and really enjoyed the light, loud, smooth drive it gave. Put a touch of reverb and you're playing SRV for the rest of the night.

Not that bad Jim. More like there will be some bits in songs where I really add some grit to my voice as opposed to really singing cleanly, and I want to know how much adjusting I'm gonna have to do to make that change mid-song

I meant more screaming/guttural vocals. I do that stuff sometimes and I want to have a PA rig that can handle it

Awesome advice. One last question: how would I adjust my sound equipment to handle unclean vocals?

If I were to go that route, what's a good feedback solution?

Wow, okay, this paragraph is even more helpful than the last. Thanks, this can really help me out. I was looking at something like a Fender Passport, but I guess I'll stay clear. And luckily, I actually have a friend who's a dope sound guy, and we're paying him in really bad weed and gigging experience

JIM TO THE RESCUE!!!! Seriously, thanks. The 609 is a mic that I know some friends want to sell so I can buy that no problem. I'll keep an eye out for a PA system near me.I'm young and my back doesn't pain me too much...

Hey all. Was turning over the possibility of a basement gig in my head recently, and I'm running into a significant problem. Recently, my guitarist left, leaving me with a call to an ex-guitarist and his 25watt Mustang V3 practice amp. It isn't ideal, and it certainly won't cut it against a drummer or my new bass amp. Obviously I'd have to mic him up, so how would I go about it? And should I use a specific mic?
Also, what's a cheap (under $750) way to find PA speakers lol. Reverb has turned up veeeeeeery little

What string gauges does everyone use?
12s on all my guitars, and Ernie Ball Super Slinkys on bass

Valve Reactor AC30s-- what are they and do they suck?
That's what I thought. He thinks 400 is a max, maybe I'll show him some Jet City. I came across 20 right before reading this post! I heard a Laney GH once and liked it, so I'll look...

Valve Reactor AC30s-- what are they and do they suck?
I'm thinking a Peavey Bandit 65?
EDIT: That's solid state. What would you recommend? Preferably over 50 watts unless it's a loud bastard like an AC30.

Valve Reactor AC30s-- what are they and do they suck?
Made perfect sense to me, but I will. Reverb listings pricing them at $440 o.o
