the election's over...

And ya know you may be onto something. Trump isn't even in office yet. I could understand all the insanity if he'd been in office for 6 months or a year . But he's done NOTHING but get elected. I cant understand why people just don't relax and see what happens. I personally don't things will be too bad. People act like hes sending black to Africa and imposing slavery, pushing gays off building tops, and making every one pay a tax for breathing. Its all just media hype. And its scaring the shit out of people.

" The people will believe what the media tells them to believe"

the election's over...

Hey man here,s one link,

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/11/11/riot-declared-in-oregon-as-anti-trump-demonstrators-damage-cars-buildings.html

and here's another

http://ijr.com/wildfire/2016/11/734135-anti-trump-election-protests-explode-into-trump-riots-in-portland/

The thing is people can protest all they like its their right! But my problem is when they start damaging property and beating people up and stuff. Its scary how fast these "protests" can start rioting at the drop of a dime. The funny thing is they never riot or protests outside the city in the subs or anything like that. They know property owners are more than likely armed and wont wait for the police to get there. They'll just shoot! So in a way they're kind of protected by staying downtown and damaging stores and such. They know its highly unlikely that a cop will use deadly force. Yeah, they might get slapped around and cuffed, maybe inhale a little tear gas. But hey, That's better than dying! People need to chill! And i swear the Media outlets make things so much worse than they actually are. The reporters need something to do.

the election's over...

What i cant believe is the reaction of people, riots, burning flags , protests (which im okay with as long as it peaceful). I really do blame all the media hype for Clinton and when she lost people got really pissed and hurt. I've never like the media. Never trusted anything on TV really. Its mind blowing if you go out the country and here an issue from the US being reported by another nations news. Its always different. And I will say that I blame the media for adding fuel to the fire when it comes to their reporting after the election. They LOVE protests and rioting so they can have something to report and get ratings on. Slime bags.

Why are so many live preformances becoming karaoke these days?

Yeah...no one wants to actually pay a band/musicians up front. But many club owners expect you to play for free! They always give you that line about exposure. Well with the all the social media and such most bands have more exposure or access to fans than ever before. It KILLS me to see some of those venues pay a headlining act and wont give the opening local band squat! Its shameful. But some owners have no problem in asking bands to bring all their gear (sometimes including PA) and set up to play for a couple of hours and not pay them. IF you're lucky you may get a percentage off the door. That just been my personal experience. In that sense maybe i can understand Someone doing a gig with a PC at their side. Its just a shame though IMO. Things have changed so much in the music scene.

Your musician pet peeves

I've been there man. Having to tell people what to play and show them how to play it. And they NEVER had any input to offer about writing. It slowly but surely becomes a pain in the arse. Hell, At one point I was haveing to be everyones guitar tech because they couldnt (or wouldnt) tune their guitars correctly or change out strings. SO I jumped ship.

HELP! looking for a singer for one song...

Im diggin the electro stuff man! Nice Work.

I agree with you 100% As much as I love my Bass VI its not a bass guitar. I think its best used as a separate sort of instrument. Like Robert Smith from The Cure uses it for lead lines more or less. The Cocteau Twins tune their Bass VI slightly different and sort of play off of each others playing. It seems to work well for them. I will say that the octave lower tuning seems to compliment the guitar IMO. I've never tried recording is strictly as a bass guitar. Maybe with the right amp/cabinet and some tweaking you could pull it off. But I think if you want bass use a bass! Grab a Music Man or Fender P bass. Ive never played a Spector. Ill see if I can find one the next time Im in a guitar shop and give it a go. Check out how well this Fender Bass Vi compliments the guitar in the song .

Why are so many live preformances becoming karaoke these days?

Im feelin ya on the rabidly insane part! LOL! I will say I have recorded a handful of drummers that were spectacular! Things I noticed about the good ones. They LOVED their kits! They had travel cases for every damn piece of the kit. Not a squeak from a kick pedal or buzz from a chain. And They actually TUNED their kits! These guys were a pleasure to record. And they were just time on with the click track! I also noticed HUGE egos (even more so than guitarists haha!). Most of them were in at least 2 bands, usually 3 though. These guys were really good! I enjoyed watching them play! One dude COLLECTED drum kits. He own upward of 50 kits! NO BS!

Why are so many live preformances becoming karaoke these days?

Yeah you might be right. I've always loved those small imperfections though. Like feedback from guitars in just the right place. Or hearing a nicely tuned drum kit with great cymbals! Maybe they should bring a MP3 player instead of a laptop! Or would that be to obvious? lol!

Why are so many live preformances becoming karaoke these days?

Before any one get offended : I think lap tops are great if you're a DJ. I think Electronic bands that sequence or use laptops as sequencers is just fine ( double standard? maybe). But Lately I've seen lots of guys/girls that have either recorded all drums tracks (along with a few others) and basically show up and strum a few chords and sing. Its just kind of weird to hear backing vocals by the same person singing along. So I'm left thinking 1. You can't get along with others and no one wants to play in your band. 2. Doesn't Britney Spears and Madonna do this? Are you lip syncing? LOL! 3. This would really rock if you had a live drummer and guitars!

Please keep in mind I may be a bit old school. I'm just trying to wrap my head around why you wouldn't want everything live ( I know setup time is a pain). I have seen one of my favorite bands ( the Cocteau Twins) actually play along to tape and it was a great show! But when I saw them later they had not one but TWO drummers and sounded phenomenal!

What happened to just rocking out or getting live and loud? Or having an amazing sound live?

10yalmost 10 years ago

Your musician pet peeves

  1. Drummers that literally give all they've got when hitting crash cymbals. ( Nice way to go deaf).
  2. Guitarists and bassists who are too lazy to tune their instrument ( maybe they're tone deaf).
  3. Egos (there's always someone who can write and play better).
  4. People who buy over priced instruments and cant play for shit.
  5. Clubs/venues and owners that DO NOT want to pay their local talent to perform.

Cleaning up the "needs review" for submissions

Dude.. I really wasn't referring to anyone specifically. But as we all read through old posts and such you can tell who the A**holes are. All you have to do is read. It would really suck if anyone wanted to ask a question about specs on a specific piece of gear and Didn't because some jerk was ready to mow them down with crappy comments and a whole lot of attitude. I actually really like Equipboard. I'd hate for it to go to crap.

Cleaning up the "needs review" for submissions

Right right! I just don't like seeing people being demeaned because they have a difference in opinion. Live and let live. I wasn't pointing out anyone. It was just a general statement to the moderators more or less. I love talking about gear. But ill never ram my opinion down anyones throat. Because what works and sounds great to me may sound like mariachi music coming through a toaster to you. Generally speaking of corse. ;O)

Cleaning up the "needs review" for submissions

Come on man... you know as well as i do that the entire music industry has very little to do with "talent" and more so with "image" or something they can sell. I personally think that VERY few talented Musicians actually get the chance to make it to the big time. One reason I admired Bowie, TALENT! But HE took it about further and sold his "persona" to the world. Constantly reinvented himself! Look at all the jackass BS that on TV and the air today IE: Britney Spears, Kanye, lilwayne...those guys are the big time. And in my opinion they're talent IS NOT music. Is selling a product ( as terrible as it is IMO). So please... don't even refer to yourself or even think i was referring to you as washed up! Life happens! I think Its about timing as well as luck. There's plenty of us older guys out there that know our way around the studio, and on stage. For me personally, I hope some of these younger guys that we record, make friends, and help with producing their sound make it to where you and I wanted ( and probably deserved to be) Bowie Status! Now that would make me smile!

Cleaning up the "needs review" for submissions

Don't know what you're talking about. I wasn't referring to you at all. But if you're feeling guilty bro.... haha! Personally i don't see how you can find time for it ( with a couple of kids and all). I couldn't do it if they payed me. I'm so busy with my 2 kids/wife, work 45 hours a week ( non music related), and run a small studio on the weekends/ some weeknights. And I tell ya... I wish I could just sail away on my boat for a week or two.Get away from it all. But Goodluck! Maybe they'll give you the nod!

Cleaning up the "needs review" for submissions

I don't post in forums very often but I REALLY HOPE THAT BEFORE YOU GUYS CHOOSE AN EQUIPBOARD MEMBER AS MODERATOR YOU WILL AT LEAST REVIEW SOME OF THEIR CONVERSATIONS WITH OTHER MEMBERS IN THESE FORUMS! Some of our members are quite rude and "all knowing" (in their opinion). I really, really hope that Equipboard doesn't turn out to be another Gear Slutz or such. Those Guys constantly insult, name call, and are just out right A**holes sometimes. I think you guys need to choose someone that seems to generally get along with other members and not be demeaning. A couple of guys are cocky as hell (just because some of us are older than others doesn't mean we are correct or even more experienced than others). I know you guys need someone to work and actually MODERATE so please, please choose someone that's not a bitter, washed up musician that pisses vinegar and breaths flames if someone disagrees! Keep Equipboard as drama free as possible.

Top x albums

HAha! Low IS fantastic. I just like the production of Tonight. Its just screams 1984! Bowie & Tina Turner together on Tonight! You cant help but smile when listening to it! Not the most well written of course (since a couple of songs were written by Iggy Poop and the BeachBoys) But from an engineering stand point it has a lot of things that just stand out as production from the 80's.

Top x albums

  2. PULP - Different Class
  3. Suede- Dog man Star or Suede (debut) Love them both!

  6. Depeche mode- Violater
  7. David Bowie- Low or Tonight (couldnt decide)

What's Your Dream Band Line-Up?

I live in the DFW area and almost fell out of my chair when I got the statement for our property taxes this year. $5,000.00!!!! Why? And they go up every year. I like Texas, but hey come on. Not like I'm living it up on the coast here! Thats a lot of bread just for the "privilege" of owning a house here. I wont even get into rental properties! People have lost their minds!

10yabout 10 years ago

What's Your Dream Band Line-Up?

Drums: Boris Williams -the man is a metronome with style!

Bass: David J -wonderful fretless bass

Guitars: Robert Fripp & Johnny Marr

Synths: Martin Gore

Vocals: Lisa Gerrard

And the kicker would be Brian Eno at the sound console doing "sonic manipulations" on the entire set up.

Best combination of pedals to get that shoegaze sound

I've always felt like a combination of pedals and rack effects work together really well for that genre of music! Some of the rack processors guys used are not incredibly expensive today. Slowdive used the Yamaha FX 500 on a couple of albums (with other effects units/pedals included). As Jimimarch1 said the yamaha spx90 is a really good one. Also the Alesis Quadraverb & gt models show up on a lot a shoe gaze gear lists. Not to mention the Eventide h3000, lexicon pcm70-pcm90. But IMO...Shoegaze was always about experimentation! I cant emphasize that enough! Mess around with feedback loops, reversed reverbs, Pitch shifted delays huge reverbs, etc! If you have any means of recording what your experimental playing leads to do it! And write down what patches effects, pedals, guitars and even amp your using (if you have multiple amps) so that way you can reference back to it if you record that unbelievable sound. Just experiment and have fun! Be creative!

Movies That NEED A Sequel

If you mean " Roman Polanski he aint" I'd say your right. Kubrick has never sexually assaulted 13 year olds as far as I know ( look it up if you havent heard) . I hope if he does set foot back to the US they toss his ass in the can! I hate child molesters. I think Kubrick has some excellent visuals in his movies... not always clear on the plot, but eye candy none the less. So maybe he is a bit of the artiste! Nothin wrong with that! ;o) Except for the Tom Cruise thing... i really can't stand him.

Thoughts on the ephiphone sg?

Yeah, quite a few people like them. But I never could get into it. Im sure some sound and play great. But it just didn't have that magic like a Fender Jaguar, tele, or event a strat (IMHO). I know we're talking about 2 different brands. And I do like Gibson guitars but the ones I adore are waaaay out of price range. A guy in my band use to play an SG and I'd give em hell about it all the time! haha! But hey, HE loved it! It sounded okay. I guess its all about personal preference. A lot of metal guys use them Toni Iomi, Angus Young, etc. So Im sure someone will find them likable but I personally don't care for them.

10yabout 10 years ago

Thoughts on the ephiphone sg?

I absolutely despise any SG. They have always felt like your playing a plank! I just hated the feel of that guitar. It felt very "flat" or something. But that is just my humble opinion. I hated telecasters in my teens but when I actually spent some time with one I fell in love with it! I thought it was an unattractive piece of plywood. I was wrong! Tele's have some great tone! And they are super easy to play. They have always felt "balanced" to me. But even still when I go into a shop and I pick up an SG I just cant get a feel for it.

Everyones top 5 bands.

Yeah, I loved Ministry and Skinny Puppy too! Many wild night listening to their tunes! My wife is really into Neubauten and Thrill Kill Cult. So I hear plenty of that! haha! Did you ever listen to Coil? They had some really strange stuff. I think they were originally chosen to do the sound track for Hell Raiser by C. Barker. But they ended up scrapping all of Coils tunes claiming they were "too creepy" and such.

I never understood why Bauhaus & NIN were on the same bill either. It was almost like a divided crowd of sorts. Not that they people didn't enjoy both but it was like some of them missed the Goth/punk era and didn't appreciate it. OH well! :o)

10yabout 10 years ago

Everyones top 5 bands.

I have very high regards for Bauhaus. I love D. Ash's experimental guitar mentality and Peter's approach on singing borders performance art. And David J's fretless bass is really good. I listened to Bauhaus way more than Peter's solo stuff (which i do like) and Love & Rockets. I really liked Ash's solo work more than L&R. It was a real treat to see them live! Great stage presence!

I remember seeing Bauhaus for the 3rd time (they were on the same bill with NIN) and all these kids were like "who are these guys?" and "When is NIN playing?". I seriously wanted to do some bitch slapping! The Same thing Happened when NIN toured with Bowie. Same comments. I should say that I've never cared for NIN. Just always thought Reznor was overrated. But I absolutely love Johnny Cash's version of Hurt.

Movies That NEED A Sequel

Yeah Keith Urban is a LUCKY mo fo indeed! Nicole is gorgeous. Why the hell she'd go for Cruise of Urban is beyond me. I can't stand Cruise. I do like the movie though. I've always had a fascination with secret organisations and societies. I wish they would have found someone else besides Cruise. Maybe Harrison Ford or Kiefer Sutherland. Have you seen the movie Dead Calm with Nicole K? It is seriously fucked up! One of my favorites though. Sorry there wasn't more Nicole in EWS. I felt the same way. That's why they should make a sequel! MOre Nicole!

Suede (or London Suede), My Bloody Valentine, David Bowie, The Cure ( everything up until WISH), Echo& the Bunnymen. I feel that I have to mention Brian Eno too! I've been listening to his stuff a lot lately.

Do I need an all-tube spring reverb unit?

I'd go for it! If those are the original caps in there and they go bad you could recap it! And now days even some of the "cheaper" caps are a bit better quality than the ones back then. I love reverb units! They all seem to have their own personalities. I've got some great results from Nichicon capacitors!
