That's cool, I actually hadn't heard of the A.O.M, Invisible Limiter. Very cool that Ilan Bluestone uses it! A.O.M. is actually completely new to me.
And who makes Dynamics Shaper? Is that by FXpansion?
Glad I was able to help! π I checked out your soundcloud too, very cool. How many of the tracks on there did you produce?
Did you see we just released item categories? What do you think? Check out this forum post if you have feedback π

Product categories - what do you think??
Hi Equipboarders!
We recently launched a new way to explore Equipboard. Most of the items should now have categories, which should make it much easier to look for products in the same category. π
So for example, if youβre checking out a pair of studio monitors and want to explore other studio monitors, you can do so in one click.
We would love your input on how we can make this better. What do you like and dislike about the new product category pages? When you look for new or different gear, what kinds of things matter to you?
We would love your help building this into something awesome, so let us know what you think!

When I was producing music, I found two of the most difficult parts of the process to be mixing and mastering. The difference is mastering can be something you outsource. Of course then, finding a reputable mastering engineer you trust is a whole other topic... π
Anyhow, for the first few tracks of mine I attempted to master, I approached it completely the wrong way. Just fyi I produced in the progressive house genre. I forgot which pro producer I was reading about, but he said he mastered by sticking PSP VintageWarmer on his master chain. I copied him and started messing around with presets on the VintageWarmer. Nothing against the VintageWarmer - it is a fantastic plugin, if you know how to use it. Problem is, I had no idea what it was actually doing to my track. I just thought, "ok, this sounds bigger and louder and more saturated, I must be on the right track..."
After getting frustrated and not really knowing if I was making my tracks sound better or worse, I decided to actually sit down and LEARN about mastering. Numerous books exist on the subject of mastering, it's such a broad subject that is both an art and a science - it can be overwhelming. Thankfully, iZotope came to the rescue. Yes, I'm going to talk about Ozone, but it's not just that. They put together an amazing guide that helped explain mastering to me better than anyone or anything before it.
If interested, the PDF can be found here. This is the intro paragraph:
If you donβt know anything about mastering or mastering software, this Guide is a great place to start. Sure, iZotope thinks you should use iZotope Ozone to master your audioβ¦you certainly could. But iZotope has learned so much from the audio community over the past 10+ years that weβre happy to give something back in return: a Guide thatβs useful for everyone who wants to learn more about mastering. As a result, this Guide can be freely copied or distributed for non-commercial purposes.
It's a fantastic read. Anyhow, you asked specifically about the software - I think iZotope designs and builds fantastic plugins. I've mostly just used Ozone out of their lineup, but the UI on it is really nice and user-friendly. Is it the best mastering suite in the world? Maybe, or maybe not. Can you achieve the same thing with a "smaller" set of software? Sure. But man, it really helped me learn, and it helped me bridge the gap to making my mastered tracks actually sound halfway decent.
Eventually a couple tracks got picked up on a label, and after I did the mixdown their [far superior] engineer took over for the mastering phase π

Hmm, sorry I'm not able to help more. Unfortunately I don't own a Hercules RMX.
Man, they make it REALLY hard to find a support contact email address π
Have you tried registering here? You could also try calling them.

Try updating the firmware, perhaps? Can you see this pdf? It has some troubleshooting steps for DJ Console Rmx for Mac OS X.
12yalmost 12 years ago
twangraus,
From what I could find, it seems like the issue might be that the USB port is not sufficiently powering the Hercules RMX. Check out this forum thread. Does that sound like your issue?
It seems like they are suggesting the user having the problem should buy a powered hub, meaning one that has "its own power supply, and does not depend on the power provided by the computer's USB port."
Does that help at all?

Do you have the Hercules DJ Console RMX 2?
What model of MacBook Pro do you have? And you're connecting them via USB?

Help identifying these pedals?
Ah yes, thanks. Looks like EHX Micro POG for sure on that one. Still curious about the one next to it.
Here's another screenshot from that performance, it's a little fuzzy, but might help identify what else he's using: http://i.imgur.com/VSFfkuL.png

Help identifying these pedals?
I love the sound Editors guitarist Justin Lockey gets, so I've been hunting for pics of his pedalboard.
From a YouTube video of their Pinkpop 2014 performance, I grabbed a decent screenshot. Can someone help me id these pedals?? Thanks! π€

This is a great question. Building my own guitar is definitely something I want to do in the not too distant future.
It might sound rather boring, but since Telecasters are my favorite guitars, for my 1st one I might just have to build one of my own. To be honest, I have NO idea where to start. I'm not sure if I would just start with an official Fender neck and body, or dig around eBay for something.
I'd do a light finish (probably Olympic White) with a rosewood neck, a lot like the Ritchie Blackmore Stratocaster. Black knobs, black pickups, chrome hardware.
This is a cool video, they show you pretty simply how to attach a neck to a body: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyu0uylL9jc
benscharming, when are you starting this project?? πΈ

I heard back from Pegboard Nerds, they told me that Monstercat is definitely taking demos, since that's how they discover new talent. Hope that helps! π

im new here
i want to start my producer career, ive got a couple of items now
Hi, and welcome! You've got some good gear to get started. Headphones or studio monitors are pretty important, what are you using for monitoring?
12yalmost 12 years ago
Hey glyphix! Tristam isn't yet a Verified Pro on Equipboard. We tweeted him anyhow, just in case.
Pegboard Nerds however are Verified Pros. I reached out to them to let em know of your question.
These dudes are all super busy, so not sure if they'll get around to seeing this, I'll keep ya posted if I hear anything π

roxell, this is a great question, and one we get often. The Equipboard community is defined by people wanting to discover the gear that influential people use. It's hard to have a strict definition for influential people; it generally means someone who is recognized as an expert in their craft, is well-known because of that expertise, and has a following.
For now, as a general rule at least two of the following must be true:
- You have a Verified Twitter account.
- You have a verified profile or Page on Facebook.
- You are covered/interviewed by one or more legitimate media publications (e.g. Rolling Stone, Guitar Player, Billboard, Future Music).
- You have a catalogue of numerous music releases (if on a label, preferably on a somewhat well-known label).
- You have toured, and proof of your touring is readily available.
- You have a very large social media following (although this isn't always a great signal, since social media followers can be purchased...).
- You are an influencer in a specialized channel (e.g. a YouTube personality with followers in the 6-7 figure range).
I hope this helps, let me know if you have any thoughts or I can help clear anything up βοΈ

A blog is NOT the best source...
Hi all,
Just a quick observation on some of the submissions we've been seeing. Try to avoid submitting a blog URL as a source. For example, we recently got a submission for a guitar owned by Foals frontman Yannis Philippakis.
The submission itself was good & correct, but the source we got for it was this Tumblr blog: http://fuckyeahfoalsband.tumblr.com/
The user actually meant to refer to a specific photo from that blog. So, the better thing to do is to actually submit the specific URL to the photo, which in this case is http://fuckyeahfoalsband.tumblr.com/image/86201292179.
Otherwise, if we link people to the homepage of the blog, this is what they're going to see when they click, which will confuse them π http://i.imgur.com/U08ltpxl.png

Hi Equipboarders! Hope everyone had a great weekend. I was up late last night to bring you a much needed change to Equipboard... we organized artists into bands/groups!
I started a separate forum topic about this here, looking forward to hearing your feedback!

We now have BANDS! Post questions/concerns/corrections here
Hi all! Excited to say we've taken one more step in the evolution of Equipboard - we are now listing the bands & groups an artist belongs to! π€
For example, "Captain" Kirk Douglas is a member of the band The Roots.
We used the power of Google for our first attempt at categorizing most of the artists on Equipboard into their bands... but it's not always 100% accurate. We're working on letting you guys have the power to add/remove bands, but in the meantime, post here to let us know if we got anything majorly wrong.
Cheers!

I'm a huge fan of The Mat Zo Mix - what else should I listen to?
Ok so Arty doesn't have a podcast (at least not one I can find), but now I'm seeking out all his live sets. So far this one rocks: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dKKyZzUrai0

I'm a huge fan of The Mat Zo Mix - what else should I listen to?
Does Arty have a radio show or a podcast? I've been absolutely obsessed with listening to his set at EDC Las Vegas 2014. I love The M Machine as well.
I'll have to give Above and Beyond a shot, just never gave myself a chance to get really into them.
Thanks for the suggestions :)

So I'm a huge fan of The Mat Zo Mix podcast/radio show.
I love how varied his style is, and yet his mixes flow together seamlessly. Would love some recommendations for something with a similar sound and flow - suggestions? :)

Hi :) cze?? :D
Czech Republic, very cool, welcome to Equipboard and the forums!
It'd be cool to see where people are from. Equipboard headquarters are in Austin, Texas, USA. There's lots of live music here, and big festivals like SXSW and Austin City Limits, so they call it the Live Music Capital of the World. We're moving into a new office, so we'll post pics of it soon :)

First !!! :D
Haha, of course, congrats ;-)
Just wanted to say hi/salut/hallo/ciao/Privet!/hola to everyone (the Equipboard community is pretty international).
I'm one of the founders of Equipboard, I've exchanged a lot of emails with you guys about the different features and things you'd like to see on the site. Here is just a fraction of the suggestions I have heard:
- being able to flag inaccurate Amazon "buy" links
- timestamps for when pros use certain things (so you could see at what point in time they were using their gear)
- getting your submissions approved faster
- add a "remember me" checkbox so you stay logged in after you close & open your browser
- group/consolidate variations of an item (e.g. one place to see all Gibson Les Pauls)
- categorizing items
- suggesting similar items (you have one DJ controller, here is a list of similar ones)
- ability to change your username or artist name
If you have anything to add, or have comments on any of the above, please let us know here. We love hearing your suggestions, and are always working to make things better.
Much love to you all, and thanks for helping us build such an amazing community of passionate gear-heads. This is only the beginning!
