Applied Acoustic Systems Chromaphone 2 review | MusicRadar

musicradar.com

Chromaphone 2 by Applied Acoustic Systems is a versatile powerhouse that stuns with its realistic emulations of acoustic instruments. With the addition of a Drumhead option, it expands its sonic palette significantly. Its user interface, although simple, hides a complex arpeggiator and modulation controls that allow for intricate sound design. The synth excels in creating rich and complex tones, especially when resonators are coupled. Despite its capabilities, the lack of a swing control is a minor shortcoming. Overall, Chromaphone 2 is a robust textural instrument perfect for adding acoustic realism.

Applied Acoustics Systems - Chromophone 2 · Tech Review ⟋ RA

ra.co

Chromaphone 2 is a standout for its unique physical modeling synthesis, offering a vast palette of resonant objects and a user-friendly interface. Its coupling algorithm and built-in effects expand its creative potential, making it a versatile tool for sound designers. However, the modulation interface feels cumbersome, and the LFO's hardwired reset can limit expressiveness. At $199, it might not entice those familiar with Ableton's Collision, but its expanded features and compatibility across DAWs make it a worthy upgrade, especially for existing Chromaphone users. If your CPU can handle it, the rich timbres will likely justify the investment.

Chromaphone 2 is a stellar upgrade, expanding on its predecessor with more sounds, effects, and an intuitive interface. Its versatility transcends percussive expectations, offering inspiring arpeggiated and synth sounds perfect for diverse musical contexts. While the small activation indicators and less convincing keyboard sounds are minor drawbacks, the ease of use and sound quality make it a must-check for creatives seeking fresh sonic landscapes.

Chromaphone 2 Review - Updated Physical Modeling For Percussions From Applied Acoustics Systems - AudioNewsRoom (ANR)

audionewsroom.net

Chromaphone 2 by Applied Acoustics Systems shines with its impressive physical modeling for percussion, offering a vast array of presets and a highly improved user interface. The software excels in sound manipulation and expressiveness, making it a favorite for producers aiming for realistic acoustic emulations. However, it may put a bit of strain on your CPU, and some presets might benefit from layering with sample-based instruments for fuller texture. Despite these minor drawbacks, Chromaphone 2 stands out as a substantial upgrade, highly recommended for its lush, realistic soundscapes and creative potential.

Currently my favourite to create percussive samples!

Uses physical modelling to create (mainly) percussive sounds. They might not accurately model real acoustic percussion but I don't really care: I use it to create percussive samples for minimal techno and upload them to my Elektron Analog Rytm. The results are awesome! I bought it during a promo for less then 99$: so great value for money! (I probably wouldn't pay 199€ for it.) It quickly became one of my favourites to generate percussive sounds...
