Vienna Ensemble Pro is a game-changer for those juggling large, virtual instrument-heavy projects. It simplifies workflow by allowing seamless integration of multiple computers via ethernet, effectively expanding your virtual instrument arsenal without the need for extra hardware. The included Epic Orchestra offers a decent starter library, though it may fall short for detailed orchestrations. While setup is straightforward, the need for additional USB keys can be a minor hassle and expense. Overall, at $285, it's a smart investment for anyone looking to boost their production capabilities with minimal fuss.

"I have a CME keyboard, though last year I was in America, and purchased an Akai MPK mini with the drum pads. I used that for a couple of weeks and really liked it, so the next one I’m going to purchase will be the 88-note Akai MPK88 (its big brother). Software-wise, I use Native Instruments Komplete 7, Cubase 6, Vienna Ensemble Pro to act as a host and to network with my other computers to host the Vienna libraries, as well as other 32- and 64-bit applications. I use the Spectrasonics Instruments too– absolutely fantastic and easy to program. I’m also running Halion 4 and Halion Sonic amongst a whole host of others. I also use the Sony Oxford range of plugs when mixing, along with Izotope Ozone and Alloy."

"I use Pro Tools, Kontakt, Vienna Pro Ensemble, Vienna Symphonic Library and Hollywood Strings mainly. I have to say I don't really think it matters what you use, they're all pretty much the same. Pro Tools is a bit annoying as it's so expensive and to get full functionality they always charge you for extra add ons like Surround Sound. There are lots of other software packages out there that give you it all for half the cost. If I can make myself learn something new I'll probably change to something else."

"So everything is networked together just on a cat6 connection and it all runs through Vienna Ensemble Pro which ... it literally changed my life. I'm able to use this as my main computer and these three farms have between 28-32 gigs of RAM in each one and they're stocked full of all the orchestra sounds that I've got and I can call them up at any point in time. I don't need to load and unload; they're all sitting there ready to go. I can switch cues. I've got one template that I use, one game to another, one style to another and these sounds just sit here all week long just waiting, which is really cool."
